I cannot download any pdf file onto my computer.  I can view the file, but cannot download. When I try download the usual screen comes up asking whether I want to run or save the file.  I always click run and the download starts, but then the message comes up saying access denied.  I cannot print in the view mode or save onto my computer.  I used to be able to do this, but not I'm not able to with any pdf file, so there is no one corrupted file.  I receive many pdf files, so this is very irritating.  There is something wrong with my computer, but I have no idea.  Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks for replying. I still cannot open file once I save it to hard

drive. The message that comes up is "There was an error opening file.

Access denied" I saved it both ways, from the download box, and right

clicking. Is there a problem with my computer?

Does that only happen with PDF files?  Other downloads are ok?

What is your operating system, b.t.w.?

Ok, let's try something...

Go to http://forums.adobe.com/community/flashplayer?view=documents and download the top document.  On Windows 7 it should automatically go to %userprofile%\Downloads - the file name will be DOC-1451.

Now open Windows Explorer and try to open the document; still the same error message?

If yes, right-click on the saved document and select Properties.

  • what is the file size?  (It should be 98,084 bytes.)
  • on the Security tab, what are the permissions for your userid?  (It shouls at least have Read, Write, Modify.)
  • on the Details tab, what are the Attributes?  (It should just have an A.)

See the corrected instructions two posts down.

security settings allow for full control: read, write execute & modify.

The details tab has an A The pdf docucment is saved but the same message

occurs when I try to open it: There was an error opening this document.

Access denied

Can you open Adobe Reader by itself?

If yes, can you try to open that downloaded document from within the running Reader?

If you still get the same error, can you try to open that document with another application, e.g. Notepad?  (Just to see if it results in the same error; you won't see anything useful in Notepad.)
