Captivate 4 scoring in Peoplesoft ELM

Hi all--hoping to get some help with our issue:  our Captivate courses are not scoring correctly when taken through our Peoplesoft ELM.  Our Articulate courses ARE scoring correctly.

The Captivate courses are scoring correctly on the ELM/Component piece, but not on the ELM/Activity piece--which is what shows up on all the training records and reports.

Here are the Quiz Preference settings we are using to publish our Captivate courses:

CaptivateQuizPreferencesSettings.png

We have tried different combinations of these settings, but none seem to make a difference. Peoplesoft either records the score of the Activity as '80' or '100'...nothing else, no matter what the component/real quiz score is (80, 90 or 100).  The mastery score was set at 80, then we unchecked that, but still no change.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Ok...I've been testing different scenarios for most of 2 days.  I've found with a quiz of 8 questions, when I set the mastery score to '70' and the Pass/Fail score to 80, everything scores correctly, giving me a score of 88 (correct score with one wrong) on both the activity and the component.

However, with a quiz of 10 questions, the same settings don't work.  I get a score of 80 on the activity and 90 on the component (90 was the correct score).

I also tried inserting a short (.1 second) blank slide between the last question slide and the question Results slide.  That made no difference.

Please help!

I've found it!  Here's the answer:

Set the following in your Captivate -->Preferences:

Project-->Start and End-->Project end options = Close Project

For SCORM 1.2 courses:

Quiz-->Reporting-->Report Status = Complete/Incomplete

Quiz-->Reporting-->Report to LMS as = Percent

Quiz-->Reporting-->Choose Report Data = Quiz results and slide views

Quiz-->Reporting-->Reporting Level = Interactions and Score

Quiz-->Reporting-->Manifest:  make sure the SCO-->Mastery score is either unchecked or <= the Pass or Fail score/percent

These settings work wonderfully for our Peoplesoft ELM LMS!  We are now scoring correctly 100% of the time.

However, because you are reporting the 'Quiz results and slide views', you will need to make sure none of your slides are longer than the pause time (assuming you have an interaction pausing your slide).  This is because Captivate doesn't count a slide as being 'viewed' unless it's completely viewed for the length of time assigned (3.0 seconds, 5.0 seconds, etc.  For those times when you need a longer slide for some reason (multiple clicks on one slide, for example), factor those slides into your Slide View Completion percent (for example, change 100% to 95%). This also applies to branching...be sure to set your Slide View Completion percent low enough to allow completion based on the minimum number of slides learners will view, no matter what branch they take.

NDBrendaH ~

I know this post is old, but i figured I would try and reach out to you through here.

We have recently migrated to PeopleSoft ELM 9.1 and I have a course with a post test in Captivate 4 and have followed your recommendations for settings and i can get the score to pass to ELM, but still cannot get it to bookmark.

Would you have some time to chat live?

If so, I can first provide you with my email and then provide you with a contact number.

Thanks,

Chris

I was just reading your posting from February 3, 2011 concerning the proper settings in Captivate to have scores correctly reported to PeopleSoft ELM and have a question.  If we do not care if they view every slide, do we still need to set Choose Report Data to Quiz results and slide views?  We have been selecting Quiz results only, but if this other setting gets the scores over we will use it.  And I assume for Reporting Level you select Interactions and Score because you selected Choose Report Data to include slides.  If you did Quiz results only, would you need that or could you go with Report score?

Thanks,

Mary

Hi Mary—

We found that we did need to use the ‘Quiz Results and slide views’ option to get the correct score. We didn’t care if they viewed all of the slides—in fact, in most courses, they won’t view all of the slides due to branching. In those cases, you need to adjust the slide view completion % accordingly.

You are correct: we do select ‘interactions and score’ for the reporting level.

We tried a ton of different combinations of Report Data and Reporting Level. These two were the only ones that worked for us, but feel free to do your own testing/experimenting! We are a team of 2, so could have missed something. ☺ Good luck!

Brenda,

Can I please ask you one more question. In your setup, do you set the Pass/Fail option to a percent or to points? We checked Report to LMS as = Percent, but we keep getting back the points (5 questions out of 5 correct, we get a 50, 4 correct we get a 40). For Pass/Fail we have it set to 100%. With the 50 or 40 that comes over, the learner is marked as Failed.

I really appreciate you time.

Hi Mary—

We ALWAYS use:

Report Status: Complete/Incomplete

Report to LMS as: Percent

Mary ~

Are you trying to just do a quiz or a course and a quiz combined?

Knowing that, will help me a lot in how I best answer your question.

It is actually a program with 11 courses. 9 of the courses have a quiz requiring 100% score. If we take the courses with quizzes at a fairly slow rate, everything seems to work fine. But if a learner moves more quickly we seem to lose communication and even though the last screen in Captivate says they scored 100%, we see a lower score in PeopleSoft ELMS. And instead of getting back a score in percent (even though the course set up says to send Percent) we get the raw score. We are on 9.1 with bundle 7 applied.

I appreciate anything you can add.
