You can have multiple versions of RH installed (Captiv8r is one such example - he's got a bunch of versions installed). The warning is that you can't have multiple versions of Acrobat installed - they just don't live well together. The sneaky part is that sometimes a "headless" version of Acrobat gets included with the RH install; you have to be careful to decline to install that part if you've already got a version of distiller installed.
I have 8 and 9 on the same machine. As long as they install to different folders you should be fine. The only real issue that may crop up here is if you use the method of double-clicking a project file to open a project. Whichever version was installed last will generally be the version that tries to open the project. But as long as you only open projects from RoboHelp, there should be no issue.
For me, it's support and training purposes as to why I have both installed. Do you know why they prefer both versions there?

To be honest I have multiple version of RoboHelp (X5, 7, 8 ,9) on my Machine and they all work fine.
--->About opening a project created in a Higher version of RoboHelp HTML to previous one. ( Project of Rh8 which was upgarded to RH9) , Just rename the ".CPD" (Project Cache) file and you can open the same project which has been successfully upgarded to Rh9 and changes made to it, back on RH8 using the same project .XPJ file, with all its changes intact.
I read this trick on the forum itself (so all credits to its author!).
Though Rh8 and RH9 as Servers shoudl not be installed on the same machine.
Hope it helps, Good luck.
Hi Rick - we are importing multiple RH5 Word projects into RH HTML and all our image mapping links (hotspots in RH5) don't work in RH9 but for the most part, do work in RH8. I have a few Help projects that I've created in RH9 HTML thus our IT team wanted to keep both installed on my machine. Thanks, Jan
Have you taken some time and reported this behavior to Adobe? If not, I'd strongly suggest you do so as it needs to be on their radar.
Link to the reporting form is in my sig.

Hi Rick, I haven't reported it because I think there is a problem with RH on my machine. The legacy project that I spoke of earlier when I compiled it on another person's machine compiled great with all the image mappings working. Mine keeps defaulting to one topic only instead of displaying the correct mapped topic. The IT team reinstalled RH after they ran a registry cleaner and that did not solve the problem. I don't understand why the same project compiles great on one person's machine and on my machine the image mapping bomb. Thanks, Jan
Thanks so much for the tip Anjaneai
