How Important is Code? A plea for help from us to new posters!

Please don't ask a layout question (or really almost any other question) here without also giving us a look at the code on your page.  The best way to do this is to upload the page and its dependent files, and to post a link to this uploaded page.  A poor second alternative would be to paste your code into your post using the double chevron icon on the toolbar, and selecting Syntax Highlighting > Plain Text.

Without knowing what you have in your code, we cannot possibly answer anything other than a very simple question.  Save us the trouble of engaging in twenty questions to find out what you have done and just show us the code.  After all, it's what determines what happens on the page, not your screenshot or your description.

Please?

Well said, Murray.  This should be required reading when new people log-in to the DW forum.

It is mentioned on the How to Get Help Quickly page but nobody sees it.

http://forums.adobe.com/thread/470404

"If your problem concerns a web page that doesn't display as expected,  upload the page to a public website and give the URL. But don't post  links to anything you don't want indexed by a search engine. Create a  test folder on the site, and remove the page when the problem has been  solved."

Sorry bad joke.  I was referring to the fact that you keep having to refer to this post.  Ya know...when you keep repeating yourself you

sound like a broken record.  Like I said...bad joke.

I'm not sure if it's within the powers of moderators or not (I think it is), but a more effective way of presenting this posting could be to create it as a sticky topic.  If you visit the Forum Comments forum ( http://forums.adobe.com/community/general/forum_comments ) , you can see how they have a top row seat at all times and don't require bumping.  I believe the moderator in that forum implemented it.

Just one suggestion in any case, you might consider changing the title to something more obvious.  As is, it can be read as a request from a new poster rather than a request for new posters to read it.

I'm not seeing a mechanism for doing that, Ned.  When I first created the post, I looked hard for it, and just now (after changing the subject) I looked again.  Do you know?

Try PM-ing Jochem in the comments forum.  I'm pretty sure he did that in response to requests from people there.  He seems to be adept at manipulating things within moderator reach.

Just because I am a new poster does not give you the right to blast me for asking a couple of questions. This was unprofessional and uncalled for. It was my understanding that these forums were for the exchange of knowledge. Evidently I was wrong.

I don't think that this topic was aimed at anyone in particular. This is a great place to find answers to your questions. The information provided by the people here is relevent to anyone asking a question. The best way to find a solution to a problem is for the people who participate here to review the code of the problem page(s). The people who post answers here are really willing to help if you, the questioner (don't think that's a real word), will provide them with all the relevent information. They in turn will provide you with the tools to fix  your problem.

Thanks everyone for helping me become designer.

I've just had this topic aimed at me.

I'm not a new poster, and have always found this forum very helpful indeed - I asked what I thought was a very basic quick question..  I often do post code, but try to judge whether I think the type of question warrants it, which in this particular case, I didn't think it did - I thought (and still do) that there was an obvious gap in my knowledge with a simple answer.  There was no desire to irritate the forum users.

Its irritating though to get an email with an apparent answer which turns out to be a link to this page.

If anyone reading this forum can help with my original question I would be very grateful (see http://forums.adobe.com/message/3470031#3470031).

Judy,

Could you continue with your original message at this link:

<http://forums.adobe.com/message/3632294#3632294>

The reason is that people might suspect you are a spammer by using a very old thread to paste your website details especially when it has to do with medical stuff.  I know you are a genuine person but just to be on the safe side.

Post a link to your site so that we can see the code ourselves.

I looked and looked on the Adobe help and in the forums for an answer to my question. I DO think very hard before I post a question. But I tell you, I was so saddened when I get the responses that I got (except for one kind person, Adninjastrator). I thought the Adobe Community help was just that. Help. But instead I got bombarded with  (what I can only describe as) a good-ole-boy-club of people that don't remember what it was like to be a beginner.  I felt like I was in some kind of chat-room that did nothing but INSULT me. NOT that I'm asking to have things handed to me. For gosh sakes. I am a self-motivated (+50) person who had to purchase Dreamweaver at full price and (on my own) learn how to use it! I had thought asking a question from the 'Adobe Commnitee' would be a great place to start. I was way wrong. You have made me feel like I don't belong and that is really, really sad. I expected something more professional from you.

OK, I'm confused Cheryl. I looked at all of your posts and did not see anyone insulting you. Are you referring to a different forum?
