1. Re: deleting old folios
Bob Bringhurst - Adobe Jan 5, 2012 9:44 AM (in response to dpsCygnus)The short answer is don't delete published folios that your customers are downloading and viewing.
The "Remove" command removes the folio from the Distribution Service, but the folio itself isn't deleted. That means your customers can no longer download that folio (if they've downloaded it, they'll be able to continue viewing it until they archive it). The "Delete" command wipes out the folio entirely.
You may want to consider using a different Adobe ID for testing.

dpsCygnus Jan 5, 2012 9:56 AM (in response to Bob Bringhurst - Adobe)Hi Bob,
Thanks, that's just what we have done is to create separate Adobe ID for internal testing & proofing.
Each magazine has it's own ID and then we use the "share" function to share it with the testing & proofing ID.
The problem is it is getting so full that when our people go to look at new stuff, it is hard to find.
Is there some way to clear out that viewing space?

Andrew Smith Jan 5, 2012 11:37 AM (in response to dpsCygnus)dpsCygnus,
So you have Adobe ID #1 for publishing and Adobe ID #2 for viewing preview versions of the folios you're creating with Adobe ID #1? Your process is:
- Create folio with Adobe ID #1
- Share folio created with Adobe ID #1 with Adobe ID #2
- Log-in to the Adobe Content Viewer app with Adobe ID #2
- Download folio and view it
If this is the case then can't you just unshare the folios and then tap the archive button in the Adobe Content Viewer when signed in with Adobe ID #2? We do this all the time for approvals of updates.

4. Re: deleting old folios
John J Metzger Jan 5, 2012 4:51 PM (in response to Andrew Smith)Or you can delete the folio when logged in as Adobe id #2in the folio builder panel. This just removes the share from your view, then archive on device and it's gone. But as Bob mentioned....Make sure you do not remove folios from the distribution service that are actively being downloaded and viewed (Adobe ID #1).

dpsCygnus Jan 6, 2012 6:59 AM (in response to John J Metzger)Thanks to everyone for the help.
Can anyone explain the difference between the "Delete" button and the "Remove" button?

6. Re: deleting old folios
Bob Bringhurst - Adobe Jan 6, 2012 7:10 AM (in response to dpsCygnus)"Remove" pulls the folio off the Distribution Service. "Delete" deletes it. You can't delete a published folio, so you have to remove it first.

7. Re: deleting old folios
dpsCygnus Jan 6, 2012 7:30 AM (in response to Bob Bringhurst - Adobe)Great...thank you very much.
So doing either to an issue of an app that is already up on iTunes removes it from iTunes?

Bob Bringhurst - Adobe Jan 6, 2012 7:34 AM (in response to dpsCygnus)Yes.

9. Re: deleting old folios
Bob Bringhurst - Adobe Jan 6, 2012 7:35 AM (in response to dpsCygnus)I replied too quickly. It removes it from the Adobe server, not iTunes.

10. Re: deleting old folios
dpsCygnus Jan 6, 2012 7:46 AM (in response to Bob Bringhurst - Adobe)Does that mean that once an issue is published, I could remove the folio from the distribution service without affecting the app that is available in iTunes?
I want people who download the app (or have already downloaded it) to be able to read all the past issues.

11. Re: deleting old folios
Bob Bringhurst - Adobe Jan 6, 2012 9:34 AM (in response to dpsCygnus)Are you talking about a multi-folio app or a single-folio app?
With a single-folio app, the folio is baked in to the viewer, and your customers download the app entirely from iTunes. If you delete the folio, your customers will still continue to be able to download the app. But with a multi-folio app, your customers download the app from iTunes and the folios from the Adobe server. If you remove the folios from the server, your multi-folio customers will no longer be able to download them.

12. Re: deleting old folios
dpsCygnus Jan 6, 2012 9:41 AM (in response to Bob Bringhurst - Adobe)They are multi-folio apps (with multiple issues).
Was just looking for understanding of your explanation "It removes it from the Adobe server, not iTunes."
