JSS1138 Jan 18, 2011 3:37 PM (in response to lchapman66)Encore requires standard video specifications. Your file is very far from that. Conversions must occur, which introduce artifacts.

lchapman66 Jan 18, 2011 3:44 PM (in response to JSS1138)I running an experiment now using AE to convert the file to 640x480 avi.

3. Re: Screen capture video flickers . . .
JSS1138 Jan 18, 2011 3:46 PM (in response to lchapman66)The proper specs would be 720 x 480 with a Pixel Aspect Ratio of roughly .9, and a frame rate of 29.97.

ZNeffPro Jan 12, 2012 11:42 AM (in response to lchapman66)Here is what I have come across as well..
I have created a Photoshop file 1920x1080 (settings in Photoshop) which are the full HDV layout Photoshop has.
I made all of my buttons on different text layers and then inmported all of this into Adobe Encore (first time user)
I then set all of my buttons into a timeline which synced up the audio and video (note:Full HD video shot at 1080p - converted in compressor for blu-ray)
Everythning in preview looks great, everything lines up - im ready to burn.
I burn the project - play it on my 50inch Plasma screen TV - and all of the text is flickering and so is the image slightly. Driving me nuts! The videos play fine and are as clear as day! Its amazing quality but the menu is not!
Heres the catch:
I synced up two videos to the menu and thats all I burned with two menus that were active.
The burn was great and no flickering.
OIt seems when I add more data the DVD menu loses quality and starts flickering. I dont think its a burn speed issue or a drive issue, but a software issue! Anything will help!

5. Re: Screen capture video flickers . . .
Stan Jones Jan 12, 2012 12:16 PM (in response to ZNeffPro)Text size/fonts can cause problems.
Also, what is your default transcode setting? This will be used to render the menus.

6. Re: Screen capture video flickers . . .
ZNeffPro Jan 12, 2012 12:18 PM (in response to Stan Jones)Fonts are at 30pt. Explain a little more on the default transcode setting and where I can find that.?!

Stan Jones Jan 12, 2012 12:24 PM (in response to ZNeffPro)Look at project settings.

ZNeffPro Jan 12, 2012 12:28 PM (in response to Stan Jones)What does the mbps need to be? higher or lower? I need some more info on what to look for to eliminate this flickering of my texts!

9. Re: Screen capture video flickers . . .
Stan Jones Jan 12, 2012 1:06 PM (in response to ZNeffPro)I'm not just looking for datarate: when you create a BD project, you can set a default transcode (that will be used for menus) that is not even HD.
So look at File -> Project Settings. Look at the info under the Transcode Settings, particularly dimension, and maximum audio/video bitrate. You cannot change the dimension in a BD project once it is created.
FYI, Photoshop HDV 1080p is 1440x1080. That is full HDV, but that is not full HD! (As in HDTV 1080p.)

10. Re: Screen capture video flickers . . .
ZNeffPro Jan 12, 2012 1:19 PM (in response to lchapman66)This is my Photoshop settings:
HDTV 1080p/29.97
1920x1080
Res: 72
RGB Color 8bit
Square Pixels
Here is my Encore Project settings:
Trascode Settings: MPEG-2; Dimensions: 1440x1080; Frame Rate 25
Fields: Upper Field First
Audio Trascoding : Adobe Digital
Max Bitrate/Video Bitrate 15.0 Mbps
Do we see a problem with this that would cause the texts only to flicker?

11. Re: Screen capture video flickers . . .
Stan Jones Jan 12, 2012 1:29 PM (in response to ZNeffPro)With the point size of fonts you described, I would not expect flickering.
However, 15.0 Mbps seems low. As a test, I would kick it way up (like 40). If that works, you can reduce it if you need space on disk for the project.
Also, I would use the full 1920x1080. This alone might be an issue.
Personally, I now like H264 rather than mpeg2 for BD.

12. Re: Screen capture video flickers . . .
Ann Bens Jan 12, 2012 2:51 PM (in response to ZNeffPro)Try H.264 instead of mpeg2.
Edit: Stan already said that.

14. Re: Screen capture video flickers . . .
ZNeffPro Jan 12, 2012 4:02 PM (in response to Stan Jones)For anyone having this problem, it is fianlly fixed! I cant pinpoint whether it was because my Photoshop file and Encore file didn't line up or if it was .h264 but it is fixed! Thanks everyone for their help. It was more help then Abobe's hotline. Hopefully my problem will help someone else in the future. Awesome!! Thanks again everyone.

Stan Jones Jan 12, 2012 4:53 PM (in response to ZNeffPro)Did you do one or more of the suggestions? And if so, which ones?
Change to H264?
Change default settings to 1920x1080?
Change max to something higher?

16. Re: Screen capture video flickers . . .
ZNeffPro Jan 12, 2012 5:08 PM (in response to Stan Jones)I did everything except change the max! Its flawless. On a PLASMA you will get a little bit of flicker just because of the plasma screen but you wont on the LCD. Also when I changed all of those settings the Blu-ray played on a Magnovox (cheap) blu-ray player. Before it did not so all of the steps I took where in the right direction to a flawless production. My clients will be happy. Thanks again!
