    Exceeded number of installs? NOT

    doane2u Community Member

I have Premiere Elements 10 which I just bought and have been on the forums asking about problems editing AVCHD videos.. To solve it I just spent about $800 on parts for a new home build with i7 cpu, new case, new PSU, new CD/DVD, 8GB fast memory. I then moved my existing C: drive from the old computer with Windows 7 64 bit on it along with PE10, CS5 and all my other software on it. Got it all running fine on the new build, including PE10, which looks like it can now handel AVCHD. Anyway, tonight I opened CS5 and am getting a pop up saying that I have exceeded the number of computers I can install CS5 on and that the program will be unusable in 30 days unless I buy a new license!!! I do have it installed on my computer where I work and I do work on files there or at home, but that's it, and I am legally allowed to do that. So it apparently thinks I have installed CS5 on a third computer! What am I supposed to do now?  The old computer now has a formated HD that I installed my old XP Pro on for resale.. it doesn't have CS5 or any other duplicate software on it from the drive that I moved to this new computer.  Please help.

You must deactivate before you uninstall or reformat the drive (Help > Deactivate). So the server now believes you're attempting a third go.

Call customer service and explain, and they'll kill the old activation for you. This is routine and no problems, they do it all the time.

Thanks.. I couldn't chat last night because they were full. I did this morning and after a half hour chat I finally got through to the person what the problem was. But he didn't kill the old activation,  he increased my number of allowed installs so that I can use CS5.. did he do the right thing?.. boy was that difficult.. he didn't seem very knowledgable at all, but it appears to be fixed as I can start CS5 now and I don't get the popup about exceeding the number of allowed 2 computers.

I had thought that because I moved the whole HD with the system and all software on it to the new computer that there wouldn't be a problem, I didn't think I would have to first deactivate it, uninstall it and then reinstall it and reactivate it.. that's sort of crazy

            Thanks for the help
