1. Re: Help Please - printing pdf
EricaX04 Jan 17, 2012 4:23 PM (in response to rollsnut)Brad - Try Exporting (File>Export, NOT Export For...) rather than Printing to PDF (I assume PDF is set up as a printer?). When you Export you'll see the familiar Save As dialog box and can pick the PDF option from the drop down box.

BobLevine Jan 17, 2012 4:52 PM (in response to rollsnut)You got the answer….printing to PDF is an archaic workflow and should not be used.
Export is recommended.

Before you get too evil on me.....do you have any thoughts about screen shot clarity in a ID publication. By nature screen shots (prints) are low res and I've even tried bringing them into Photoshop first to render a higher res piece, but they are still not great.
Any thoughts on working with them? Final product is a pdf but some users may want print-outs.
Thanks,
Brad

9. Re: Help Please - printing pdf
BobLevine Jan 18, 2012 8:44 AM (in response to rollsnut)Take the screen shot and place it in ID.
Nothing you do anywhere will improve it…more to the contrary, any manipulation of a screenshot tends to make them worse.
In short, they are what they are.

P Spier Jan 18, 2012 8:46 AM (in response to rollsnut)I'm not Bob, and not half as evil. The conventional wisdom for screen caps among those I know who use a lot of them is "don't mess with them at all." Just place them in ID, and scale if necessary. Nothing you do in Photshop is likely to improve them.

11. Re: Help Please - printing pdf
rollsnut Jan 18, 2012 9:20 AM (in response to P Spier)I have to agree. I am creating a computer database training manual with lots of highlighted screen shot points and was concerned with the final output. I am on location today and printed my test pdf (exported thanks to Erica and Bob) and it prints ok. A print out is how most will use the final.
I took it into PhotoShop because I thought I could do the "circles," "numbering", etc quicker....after the experiment I'll just do my editing in ID and get virtually same results.
Thanks all for your help. I haven't used this forum too much but this project I'm on my return me here frequently for the next couple months.
Thanks again,
Brad
