Mac or windows? In Windows you print contact sheets from the organizer and after you select Contact Sheet as the type of print you can turn on Show Print Options and the file name is one of those.
On a Mac, go to Print>Contact Sheet II in the Editor and you can do the same thing in the Contact Sheet window with "use file name as caption".
Automation tools is always grayed out in PSE. It's only there for the benefit of a few legacy plug-ins that use it.

Point of order:
- The Nik Software Color Efex Pro uses that "Automation" menu for one of its functions.
- When installing scripts, that menu is also used (as I did here: )
