CS3 Ai goodies clip art & photos - How & where to put?

    kenackr Community Member

I've been plugging along using Ai CS3 for awhile but never opened the "Goodies" folder on the content disk until today. I opened & installed the plugins & file types for PS with no problemo, drag 'em to the plugins folder.

When I got to the Ai folder and opened the clip art in Bridge, I thought let's get this moved to the hard drive so Ai & PS can get to it without delay. As many of you already know, the Ai CS3 .read me text mentions that you can add this content to supplement the small amount  during initial install. Also as many of you know. It stops there and makes no suggestions on how or where to put it so both apps can use it. It's been 4 hours now searching the forums & reading the manual & actually creating a new folder in the Library called "Clip Art" and then having Bridge save all the clip art to the file.

Well, (stop chuckling for a minute will you?) the clipart is there but can't see the pix, only icons & file numbers. OK, so that was the wrong place & wrong approach .

If you've dealt with this before and can help me stop floundering around like a fish out of water (pun intended) I'd be very greatful for evermore.

What kind of files are they? I don't want to dig out that disk and look for myself.

            Monica,

Sorry I didn't right back to you, but my ISP had yet another outage all day yesterday. Here's some screen grabs to help:

Finder image of file path to the clip art files on the Content DVD:

            Ai-Clp-Art-Goodies.gif

Image of "Read me" Ai install with reference to additional content in italics, no other info available:

                 Ai-read-me_install.gif

image of Ai Help file, "Extras" section no other information available:

            Ai-Help_-Extras.gif

Finder Image of cache file browser that will not open :

            Ai_finder-image_w-file-info.gif

FInder Error Msg when trying to open cache file msg:
            Error-Msg-to-open-cache-file-browser.gif

Finder image of file info on thumbnail cache browser _ haven't tried to open yet:
            AI_-Thumbnail-cache-Browser-.gif

So there you have it, I think. I certainly haven't been able to figure it out yet.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

            Ken

Just drag it off the Disk and place the goodies folder anywhere on any hard to drive you eve something and just remember where you put it so you navigate to that location.

In the old days it was automatically copied to the Illustrator folder.

If you just want the clip art just drag that folder to your harddrive and put anywhere you like.

As Wade said, you can put that stuff pretty much anywhere.

I wouldn't put it into the library folder, but rather into your normal documents folder. The library wouldn't give you any benefits. Maybe the clip art is saved without PDF compatibility, so Bridge doesn't show a preview of the contents. There used to be a PDF catalog of the contents in these folders (at least in some versions of creative suite), so maybe you could search for it.
