Hi!

Today I updated Reader from 9 to 10.1.2 - I did not face any problems with the installation.

But now I can not open any pdf attachment in Outlook 2010 (Reader opens and closes immediately) if Reader X is not running.

When the Reader is allready running I can open the files without problems.

When I save the file on my desctop I can also open it - also if reader is not allready running.

I un- and reinstalled the reader fiew times, also tried the repair tool - nothing helped.

I receive a lot of pdf Files - any help would be great.

What is the behavior if you try and open other attachments (like DOC, XLS files) from the Outlook 2010. Do they exhibit the same behavior?

All other attachments open without any problem. With Reader 9 the pdf-files also worked perfect - but now after the update it fails.

Thanks for the confirmation.

Could you try and temporarily disable the antivirus software installed on your system and see if it helps resolve the issue.

I uninstalled reader X and installed the latest version of reader 9 - you can find it on the support homepage - everything is running great. I´ll wait for next update and try again ....

Did you try this?  It worked for me.

http://www.darrenstraight.com/blog/2010/12/16/adobe-reader-x-there-was-an-error-opening-this-documen...

  1. Open up Adobe Reader X
  2. On the Toolbar Menu go to Edit > Preferences
  3. Go to the general tab under Categories.
  4. Untick “Enable Protected Mode at Startup”
  5. If asked if sure, click Yes and then Ok.
  6. Now close Adobe Reader X and try opening the PDF again.

Change the option in Outlook so that you are writing new emails in HTML instead of Rich Text; this should resolve the problem.
