    CS5 Incopy random corruptions

I'm working with a team, some using InDesign and some using InCopy, on a huge multi-file project. We've recently bumped into some strange corruptions with our IC workflow.

The first is a random selection of documents exported to IC that show up in IC with no available stories. The ID file has stories in the IC panel, but the ID file in IC has no available stories. If the editor looks into the folder that the IC files are exported to, he can open the IC file directly and edit it, and the ID user can update the story, but the editor cannot see changes to the story or edit the story from the ID file. We have not been using Assignments--the IC users are opening the ID files directly in IC to make their edits.

The other corruption, which is much more disastrous and troubling, is that we've had several random files (mostly one particular folder on the server volume, but a few others in other random locations) that completely scrambled their IC links for no apparent reason. At one point the files were fine, but the designer opened them and suddenly discovered that stories were in the wrong locations in the document, like the links had been broken and reset to the wrong story threads. It's taking a great deal of time to fix. Some of the stories are linked corrected but shifted into wrong locations. The only thing in the workflow that could possibly explain it is that a volunteer editor has been opening them on a PC laptop in ID to make minor edits. The files were created on an Intel Mac running Snow Leopard. However, the editor didn't do anything with the links or textboxes, just checked out the stories and edited text and checked in and saved and closed, and she said that other than missing fonts, they looked fine when she had them open. We have no idea how the documents got corrupted.

Anyone seen either of these issues before and have any idea what could be causing the problems? We are now paranoid about our workflow and worried about corruption in other files.

We are working on a variety of Intel Macs and PCs. Most of the ID users are on Macs except the one exception above and the editors using IC are mostly on PCs running Windows 7. All the files are stored on a single volume on a large server.
