Adjustment Brush

It should default to the way it was when you last used it, I think.

I believe the adjustment brush settings are sticky, with the idea that the next time you use the brush you are most likely to do the same thing.  Try setting the exposure to zero, exit LR, reopen and see where the exposure is.
