4. Re: Premiere CS5 running very slow on powerful PC
erichschraub Feb 2, 2012 8:10 PM (in response to JSS1138)I'm typically working with image sequences, which when i preview will play to speed for the first 3 seconds, then freeze up completely for 3 seconds while the audio will continue on, then just struggle to keep up and maybe play at 10fps if i let it continue. I never experienced this preview problem with premiere pro 2, which was the last version we had before CS5.
2 HD's, plenty of free space, usually the clips are located on the storage drive (D).

Stephen_Spider Feb 2, 2012 8:18 PM (in response to erichschraub)Image size? Image format?
Sequence preset?
Are you using MPE hardware acceleration?

6. Re: Premiere CS5 running very slow on powerful PC
erichschraub Feb 2, 2012 8:50 PM (in response to Stephen_Spider)1280x720 jpgs or pngs mostly
edit in AVCHD or desktop mode depending on the footage im cutting, 30/29.97 fps
as far as the MPE hardware acceleration i am not sure. In project settings the video rendering and playback tab only lets me choose 'MPE software only', the box is greyed out and i cant switch to anything else.

7. Re: Premiere CS5 running very slow on powerful PC
Stephen_Spider Feb 2, 2012 9:11 PM (in response to erichschraub)Quadro FX 5800 should be supported for GPU Hardware Acceleration. You need to run the GPU sniffer program in the adobe premiere folder. Close premiere 1st, run the app. Then reopen premiere and see if you can enable hardware acceleration.

erichschraub Feb 3, 2012 7:46 AM (in response to Stephen_Spider)thanks for the tip but i still cant change from 'MPE software only' after running the GPU sniffer. Should i get any kind of message from the GPU sniffer? It just seems to open up a dos window and dissapears.

9. Re: Premiere CS5 running very slow on powerful PC
JSS1138 Feb 3, 2012 8:45 AM (in response to erichschraub)As a test, try some other media, a supported format from a real video camera. How does that run?
Also, be more specific about your drive setup.
Finally, which exact version of PP are you running?

10. Re: Premiere CS5 running very slow on powerful PC
erichschraub Feb 3, 2012 8:57 AM (in response to JSS1138)everything from mts, mov, wmv all experience the same slowdown issues. It isnt even jsut the playback but navigation on the timeline will lag as well.
i dont know what you want to know about the HD setup exactly but its 2 SATA HD's i believe 50gb free space on the C, 200 free on the D. Dont know RPM
running the most up to date PP CS5

There's been a lot of folks who say that, not realizing there were further updates. That's why it helps to post the exact version number.

erichschraub Feb 3, 2012 2:38 PM (in response to Powered by Design)your cuda list a few posts above has more cards listed than mine, but my card is on the list. For some reason premiere is not seeing i have the video card? I'm thinking that could be the main problem, but would it be major enough to hinder my performance the way it is ?
edit - C: dirve is about half full

JSS1138 Feb 3, 2012 9:44 PM (in response to erichschraub)OK.
Next thing I'm suspecting is some other process interfering with things. Run Task Manager and post a screen cap of your running processes.

Powered by Design Feb 4, 2012 12:47 AM (in response to erichschraub)Do you have a second video card you could swap in to do testing with ?
Maybe try downloading some older drivers for your card and see if those work.

Stephen_Spider Feb 4, 2012 3:42 AM (in response to Powered by Design)Does your system identify the card as a quadro fx 5800? Is there anything weird about the way the card is listed? If there is, I would paste the identicle name listed for the card into the supported card list.

Here is a link to a video if you dont know how.

I think that you are correct, and the OP has not disabled the on-borad, embedded Intel graphics chip. Notice his Vendor String - "Intel."

bagosha Feb 27, 2014 3:33 AM (in response to erichschraub)I have the same problem!
The computer should have no issues with basic editing but it struggles along and wont preview back even 1 video track in real time without lagging
when i preview will play to speed for the first 3 seconds, then freeze up completely for 3 seconds while the audio will continue on, then just struggle to keep up and maybe play at 10fps if i let it continue.
2 HD's, plenty of free space, usually the clips are located on the storage drive (D).
is any solution?
