How long to verify a file?

I added an epub file, using the add item, and it seemed to work.  It began verifying the document, but it seems to have frozen.  None of the shortcut keys are working, I closed the library and when I reopened it was still verifying.  I even uninstalled and reinstalled it, but it is still verifying document.  Is there a way to stop verifying or to delete the document?

Apparently, the proiblem fixed itself over the past couple days.
