1. Re: How to convert an entire specific color into transparent area?
Mylenium Feb 7, 2012 10:58 PM (in response to DavidW7)That's what the selection tools are for. Still, you need to work with layers to get genuine transparency. So convert your flat image by double-clicking on the Background layer. The only other option is to save the selection so it appears as a custom channel which may be used as transparency, but that depends on the file format and how other applications interpret this transparency info. That also applies to saving transparency in teh PSD or TIFF as wel las web formats like GIF or PNG...

c.pfaffenbichler Feb 7, 2012 11:52 PM (in response to DavidW7)Like Mylenium said you need to create a regular Layer, then you can use for example
• Select > Color Range or
• the Magic Wand Tool (maybe with Contiguous unchecked in the Options Bar)
to create a Selection of the color, use Select > Inverse to invert it and use that Selection as a Layer Mask (Layer > Layer Mask > Reveal Selection).
As for other areas the Selection Tools (Lasso Tool, Rectangular Marquee Tool etc.) and (if the transparency is supposed to be sharp-ish) the Path Tools (Pen Tool, Rectangle Tool etc.) can be used to create Layer Masks or Vector Masks.
