LR 3.6 freezes when I go to develop module

    tmewborn Community Member

I have been using 3.6 from day one with no problems, now I can view all files in my catalog, but when I go to the develop module the picture does not show and LR freezes.  I have tried everything to no avail.

      Thanks,

      Tom

          Hi Tom,

Gunnar Helliesen reported this problem first, about 17 days ago, over on the Photoshop.com forums; I added a report 7 days ago. There weren't any other reports but we got a response from Adobe within a couple of days. Also, Martin Evening (The Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 3 Book) recommends increasing the setting for the Camera Raw cache (See point 1 of Julie's response). I cleared my cache and set it to 50gb and haven't experienced any further freezing but I try to 'be patient' as well and not hit anything else until the 'Loading...' message disappears. Worked for me!!

Gunnar and Ian, unfortunately I think the best course of action is for you to downgrade to Lightroom 3.5. There was a bug that slipped out in 3.6 that we believe very few systems are susceptible to, but clearly you are hitting it.

The other option is to be patient when advancing through images in Develop and waiting until the "Loading..." message has cleared before moving to the next one, but that may not be reasonable for you.

          I would recommend the following:

          1. First, clear your Camera Raw cache to make sure any images it got hung up on didn't leave bad cache data around. From the Preferences menu, choose the File Handling tab, then hit the Purge Cache button in the lower right corner. (The cache will rebuild itself as you continue working with the app.)

          2. Download Lr 3.5 from here: http://www.adobe.com/support/download...

          3. Delete Lr 3.6 from your Applications folder.

          4. Install the 3.5 build that you just downloaded. It will work fine with your existing catalog.

Even if you choose to stick with 3.6 and "being patient", I would recommend purging your Camera Raw cache first to avoid further hangs. Our apologies that this one slipped out into the wild.

          Hope this helps,

          Ian.
