This is a commonly asked question. Unfortunately I don't know the answer. You could try searching http://forums.adobe.com/community/bridge/bridge_windows for the error message.

Some users find the solution by launching Bridge from Photoshop or other applications if you have a suite.

Try launching Bridge from all applications you have.

same message I also set to not start up at login in preferences.

Could you try to check in PS menu Photoshop/ about plugins and see what version you have for Camera Raw? there should only be one version present.

Can you also provide details about version number of trial and what system you are using.

Did you try to restart Bridge holding down option key and choose reset preferences.

And have you installed the suite in the default application folder on your start up disk?

                  HI Omke,

                  Camera Raw Ver 6.6.0261

                  PS Ver 12.1 x 32 bit

OS Windows XP Professional 2002 SP3.

Installed under Progam Files/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop CS5.1

and Progam Files/Adobe/Adobe Bridge CS5.1CS5.1 There is no folder for Camera raw Should there be or is it just part of Bridge?

My opinion is that it has shot circuted Becasue I initially installed a Creative suite Stanadard but Indesign wouldn't work as it said "minimum requirements not met" on install and "this version is not licensed correctly" on launching!!!  But after a discussion on Install and setup with Mylenium we decide it should be able to work but couldn't resolve start problem, So I uninstalled the suite and cleaned up with "adobe clean up" and installed trial versions of PS ext and Indesign, once again it didn't work and I gave up but after a few days I thought i would try again and it worked, weird eh! This coincided with my acknwledgemnt email  from Adobe arriving some days later after initial install. So I think the cameraw Raw/parent application thing may have stemmed from that process and its looking for a parent application from a suite not just a Ps single install. ???

OS Windows XP Professional 2002 SP3.

OK, now I have to leave you to the Window wizz kids, I'm only familiar with Mac.

However, the give versions seem correct but you seem to have installed PS as 32 bit instead of the 64 bit. Is that due to your XP 2002 system?? I have seen some discussions mentioning XP would not work correctly anymore with latest Adobe and other where stating that combined with service pack 3 it should do.

Adobe Camera raw is provided as a plug in and is able to work both through PS and Bridge, even simultaneously if your PC has enough power for it

But the ability or inability for 64 bit in XP could have caused your problem earlier on.

Don't know if you have to deactivate a trial version before uninstalling (don't suppose so) but deactivating using the help menu and clear preferences should be first, then the official uninstall procedure with the Adobe uninstaller with clear preferences and at last the Adobe Clean Tool.

Mixing up suites and single versions is also not sounding good, to be honest.

Curt and Yammer will know about the 64 bit issue.

And I don't want to start a different discussion but you are trying software based from 2011 on a system based from about 9 years earlier...

                      Hi Omke,

Yep 32 bit because of XP, told I can upgrade to windows 7 and operate at 64bits and increase Ram to 8gb, but won't be doing that for now due to a lack of funds..

No I did not deactivate The suites trial before uninstalling.

Thanks for your help, i am not too worried about Camara Raw more interested in the other featurs Of PS ex and Id, so won' be loosing any sleep if i can't get it going before the end of the trials just be nice to try all the features I've seen on tutorials etc.

For a 32 bit program it should in in Program Files (x86)/adobe -----

Camera Raw is in Program Files (x86)/COMMON FILES/adobe/plug-ins/file format  Should be Camera Raw.8bi

Did you resolve the issue of your 32 bit program being in the 64 bit Program Files locaton?

This is a where my knowledge begins to waiver are you saying that my programs folder should have a "(x86)" sub folder then adobe or should there be a "Program Files (x86")  folder seperate from just "Program files" or should my progarm folder be "Program Files (x86)", as I have no (X86) anything.

Guess I should have asked if you have a 64 bit OS?

With dual system Windows has Program Files for 64 bit programs and also Program Files (x86) where the 32 bit programs reside.

If not then a moot point.

It is a 32 bit system as is 5 years old, hope to upgrade eventually to windows 7, so i can play with EDGE, and apparently I can operate it as  64 bit machine then with max RAM of 8 GB. I only have 1GB at moment, but will upgrade to max XP 3 GB soon.

So it would seem I won't get to play with Camera RAW in the meantime. Not to worried.

But many thank for your help.

Don't know how you manage this but I believe the minimum requirements for CS5 are 2GB but you will sure benefit from more, RAM is very cheap nowadays
