1. Re: Smooth render/new to after effects plz help
Sircharlesgraham Feb 26, 2012 2:30 PM (in response to wernerdrums)sounds like the frames per second.
you can alter fps in your project settings. / in composition setting and Render settings.
just make sure you know what fps the old project was in.

2. Re: Smooth render/new to after effects plz help
Rick Gerard Feb 26, 2012 3:32 PM (in response to wernerdrums)You are probably rendering with the default uncompressed settings. Check the help files on output and rendering. Uncompressed or lossless files won't playback in real time on most systems.

3. Re: Smooth render/new to after effects plz help
Mylenium Feb 26, 2012 6:02 PM (in response to wernerdrums)You need to read up on compression and CoDecs plus you might still wanna double-check footage interpretation vs. comp framerate vs. render settings vs. output module settings. Even if you get some of that right, there may be a problem elsewhere. Some CoDecs will always enforce specific frame rates to comply with certain specs...

wernerdrums Feb 26, 2012 10:45 PM (in response to Mylenium)Hi,
thanx so much for answering my question. appreciate it.
i saw that only certain render formats have option where you can choose codecs. is that what you mean by codecs? the only thing i have is copy the source 25fps, 720 x 576 and rendered it as avi.
i want to import the footage that i render in after effects to premiere sometimes. dont know what format is the best.
thanx again for all the help
werner.

5. Re: Smooth render/new to after effects plz help
wernerdrums Feb 27, 2012 6:59 AM (in response to Mylenium)Hi again,
Thanx again for the reply. I started checking codecs out.
My files are MOD files from a JVC camera. After effects can read them.
I watched a vid on codecs and I rendered it as AVI with dv ntsci codec and it looked ok but
it shot the fps to 29 from 25 and the audio is out of sync. I tried other codecs but they don't look as. Hope you can help.
Kind regards.
Werner

6. Re: Smooth render/new to after effects plz help
Dave LaRonde Feb 27, 2012 8:10 AM (in response to wernerdrums)Your footage is PAL. Don't render in DV NTSC. Render in DV PAL.
And you should also know that DV is a lossy Codec. If you'll continue to do work on this in another application, you may want to use a lossless codec.

7. Re: Smooth render/new to after effects plz help
wernerdrums Feb 27, 2012 8:24 AM (in response to Dave LaRonde)Hi, thank you for the reply:)
For some reason when I used PAL it didn't look that smooth when rendering.
I want to make a video in after effects for YouTube. Ntsci made the audio out of sync but playback was so nice. What should I use for YouTube?
Appreciate your time so much.

8. Re: Smooth render/new to after effects plz help
marian.ene Feb 27, 2012 8:31 AM (in response to wernerdrums)your best bet is render as uncompressed AVI or QuickTime, then convert the file to mp4 with Adobe Media Encoder.
Also, for best results you need to keep your settings consistent throughout the entire flow (have the same FPS, frame size, field order for: footage interpretation, composition settings, output module and final conversion from Media Encoder).

9. Re: Smooth render/new to after effects plz help
Dave LaRonde Feb 27, 2012 1:22 PM (in response to wernerdrums)I'm not really sure what you mean by "smooth", but this could be an explanation.
I don't ever use the feature, but I'm pretty sure there's a preset for rendering to youtube in the latest version of AE, and I can't check because I'm about fives miles away from my AE machine at the moment.

10. Re: Smooth render/new to after effects plz help
wernerdrums Feb 27, 2012 1:52 PM (in response to Dave LaRonde)Hi, thank you for responding. My videos look like are not real time. I read it's to do with codecs but I followed instructions to render as h.264 and avi with dv pal codec but there is still some issues. If I watch original video and then rendered one, I see a huge difference in playback. Frame rate looks slower although I rendered the same as the source.
Thank you again for answering.
Werner
My video is 25 fps and 720 x 567 1.09
.AVI
