I followd this up with ReadyHosting. Here's the transcript of
the
conversation:
Chat InformationYou are now chatting with 'Adam Tucker'
Adam Tucker: Hi Adam. My name is Adam, how are you today?
Adam Cameron: Hi Adam. I'm Adam too.
Adam Cameron: (snap)
Adam Cameron: I'm good.
Adam Cameron: Can you help me with this URL:
Adam Cameron:
http://www.readyhosting.com/info/systemnotice.bml?id=2938
Adam Tucker: Sure.
Adam Cameron: Can you point me to a reference on the Adobe
site that
confirms this situation? It's news to me.
Adam Cameron: (I'm not actually a readyhosting customer, btw.
But I'm
helping one on the ColdFusion forums @ Adobe)
Adam Tucker: Please hold on while I provide the information.
Adam Cameron: cheers
Adam Tucker: Thank you for your patience. we have already
implemented that
for some of the customers.
Adam Cameron: Sure, but what's the issue?
Adam Tucker: Could you be more specific on your issue?
Adam Cameron: It's a fairly sweeping / condemning statement.
And I don't
know of any such issue with CF.
Adam Cameron: That's what I'm asking YOU.
Adam Cameron: At this URL:
Adam Cameron:
http://www.readyhosting.com/info/systemnotice.bml?id=2938
Adam Cameron: You say this:
Adam Cameron: OH. Hang on.
Adam Cameron: The text of that page has changed since i first
looked @ it.
Adam Cameron: It used to say this:
Adam Cameron: ""The error message is due to a flaw in
Coldfusion that
causes the database layer to stop working when a number of
requests are
processed through it simultaneously. This is a known
Coldfusion issue."
Adam Cameron: Sorry for confusion.
Adam Cameron: It actually sounds to me like you were running
old DB drivers
and have upgraded to the current ones?
Adam Tucker: We have moved all the ColdFusion sites to
different server.
Adam Cameron: Not sure what else you could mean by "DB
layer".
Adam Cameron: So problem is resolved, basically?
Adam Cameron: So there's no "known issue" with DB instability
with CF,
which Adobe acknowledges, basically.
Adam Tucker: Database layer means that we have setup one new
server and
moved all the ColdFusion sites to that server.
Adam Tucker: Since we moved the sites the issues are very
less.
So it sounds to me like they were running old JDBC drivers
("database
layter" indeed). And once they upgraded them: problem goes
away.
It also sounds like they were dollying up the situation with
techospeak and
partial truths to make it sound like it was someone else's
(Adobe's) fault
other than their own.
I'd say: these is no issue here, other than the lesson to
keep your DB
drivers up to date.
