1. Re: Illustrator PDF saving as an InDesign PDF
Manish-Sharma Mar 21, 2012 6:44 AM (in response to GArshamA)Indesign canot open the PDF file ,however you can place the pdf file in the Indesign which wil not be editable.
http://help.adobe.com/en_US/InDesign/6.0/WSa285fff53dea4f8617383751001ea8cb3f-6bd7a.html
Place command is under File>place
also what is happening at your end is the issue of the file association, the default application to open the PDF set on your computer is Adobe Indesign.
once the default application will be changed to Acrobat it will work fine for you.
Please let us know the operating system to know the steps or you can google it.

2. Re: Illustrator PDF saving as an InDesign PDF
GArshamA Mar 21, 2012 9:24 AM (in response to Manish-Sharma)Thanks, but I may not be making the situation clear. I have an AI file. I save it as a PDF, to my desktop (File>Save as>PDF (with Illustrator editing capabilities). But when I look at the file on my desktop it has an ID icon on it and it says InDesign PDF. I don’t know why in the world it says InDesign. And when I click on it, InDesign opens up but then a window opens saying InDesign cannot read that file (or something like that)… plug in is missing or it is open. But it was never an InDesign file.

3. Re: Illustrator PDF saving as an InDesign PDF
GArshamA Mar 21, 2012 9:29 AM (in response to GArshamA)Opps... sorry about that. My email clipped off the last paragraph of your answer, and that was it. For some reason my default opening for PDF was changed to InDesign. I changed it back to Adobe Acrobat and it's fine now. Thanks again.
