1. Re: When a make a group, or make a group a symbol FW adds 1 pixel?
groove25 Mar 23, 2012 9:13 AM (in response to Mr. Handley)I can't seem to replicate the bug on FW8 for Mac. Do you have a sample for this?
Also, can you see the pixel, or is it just a number in the Properties Inspector? And do you think that the proportion is being distorted at all?

2. Re: When a make a group, or make a group a symbol FW adds 1 pixel?
Mr. Handley Mar 23, 2012 10:17 AM (in response to groove25)I can see the extra pixel because it was from things changing their size... and hence their line up to the edge of something else, after I had carefully aligned everything, grouped them and made a symbol out of the group in order to save them to the common library thinking the work on that bit was done.
On applying the symbol to the next part of the job, I see that things are not lined up as I thought they had been, and it was figuring out how I could have not noticed the misalignment before making the symbol that I figured out what was happening.
Later I will take a screen shot and show the behavior.
Thanks for confirming that this NOT the way it is supposed to work....
I read Jim's book a couple years ago and this is the first project I have taken up since building a couple small personal sites with Jim's book and CS4... so I can't really remembre how things are supposed to work.

3. Re: When a make a group, or make a group a symbol FW adds 1 pixel?
groove25 Mar 23, 2012 10:54 AM (in response to Mr. Handley)Do you have the Transform panel? It's a nice extension to have when you're concerned about pixel alignment because it shows sub-pixel increments whereas the Properties Inspector tends to round up or down to whole pixels.

You might also want to look at what options you have selected in the View menu—to see whether any snapping features are activated (e.g., Snap to Grid, Snap to Guides).
So it sounds like more of a problem with Symbols, rather than Groups? A screenshot would be helpful. While I'm not aware of it being an issue, I can imagine this happening more with a Symbol—since it exists as a separate, self-contained "document within a document". I could imagine there being a glitch in translation between the two files.

libbiecoulson Apr 2, 2012 7:06 AM (in response to Mr. Handley)Hey, I get this too occasionally, found that it was sometimes linked to a text box being one pixel longer than I thought.... might be the same for you?

Mr. Handley Apr 2, 2012 10:32 PM (in response to libbiecoulson)Thanks Libby that is what was happening.
