1. Re: Ringing wind noise audio in Premiere only.
Jim Curtis Mar 28, 2012 1:22 PM (in response to gold987987987)The only reason I can think of your audio getting changed would be if you changed the routing in the Mixer, or added an effect, or there's something fishy with your Audio Hardware settings where perhaps your signal from Pr is being mixed with itself through your audio hardware and or audio driver.
You didn't say how you monitor your audio in Pr. Do you have a PCI or USB interface, or do you just connect speakers to your CPU? Does the audio go through a mixer? Supply any info you can related to audio.

2. Re: Ringing wind noise audio in Premiere only.
gold987987987 Mar 28, 2012 1:31 PM (in response to Jim Curtis)No effects are being applied. It makes the noise in any Premiere footage window while playing or scrubbing. As for monitoring the audio...I just have a pair of speakers plugged directly into my PC. Wind noise from my 5DmkII does not produce the same ringing.

3. Re: Ringing wind noise audio in Premiere only.
Jim Curtis Mar 28, 2012 1:46 PM (in response to gold987987987)Before you add clips to a sequence you can select your clip, go to the Clip menu, and choose Modify>Audio Channels.
Turn your clip audio into mono, and then drag them to a sequence. Disable all but one track. Do you still hear the "ringing?"
Do that for each of your tracks.
Let us know about your results.

4. Re: Ringing wind noise audio in Premiere only.
gold987987987 Mar 28, 2012 2:13 PM (in response to Jim Curtis)OK, so I did as you instructed and it still makes the exact same noise in both the Source monitor and Program monitor. 5DmkII onboard audio wind noise tracks do not make the noise...it's only the Roland R-26 tracks. Weirds.

5. Re: Ringing wind noise audio in Premiere only.
Jim Curtis Mar 28, 2012 2:23 PM (in response to gold987987987)You couldn't have done what I asked in the Source monitor.
When many people describe "ringing," what they mean is they hear a constant high-pitched tone; something on the order of 10-18 KHz.
"Ringing" isn't really a pro audio term that connects with audio pros, except for the ringing in the ears that accompanies tinnitus, or the hangover of a loud rock concert and so on. There's Ring Modulation, but that's another kettle of fish.
If the effect you're hearing disappears when you're only monitoring one of two stereo tracks, that would suggest flanging or phasing.

6. Re: Ringing wind noise audio in Premiere only.
gold987987987 Mar 28, 2012 2:59 PM (in response to Jim Curtis)Sorry if my response was confusing. I followed your instructions to a T. I was just trying to explain that I can hear the ringing during playback in the Program monitor...as well as when playing the clips in the source monitor. Stereo, mono...they both exhibit the same behavior during playback.
As for the ringing noise...that's what it sounds like. Very high pitch and is directly associated with the wind noise. When the wind noise dies, so does the ringing. When the wind noise increases so does the ringing. It's crazy how it matches the amplitude exactly.
Here's a clip I recorded with my iPhone. It' a short clip, but you can hear the wind noise and the very high pitched ringing associated with it. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3723620/Memo.m4a

7. Re: Ringing wind noise audio in Premiere only.
Jim Curtis Mar 28, 2012 3:12 PM (in response to gold987987987)I listened to your clip. Could it be the wind is causing something metallic to vibrate, creating the high-pitched sound?
Is it possible that you're in fact hearing something in Pr that is on your tracks, that you're not hearing elsewhere?
Can you play the audio on some other player, like VLC, WMP, QT Player, etc, through the same speakers, and tell a difference?

8. Re: Ringing wind noise audio in Premiere only.
gold987987987 Mar 28, 2012 3:18 PM (in response to Jim Curtis)The ringing only occurs in Premiere. The ringing does not occur when playing back in WMP, VLC, QT Player. The ringing does not occur on export either, the audio comes out fine.

9. Re: Ringing wind noise audio in Premiere only.
Jim Curtis Mar 28, 2012 3:25 PM (in response to gold987987987)I would try a couple of things: Open Preferences>Audio Hardware and change the Default Device to something else. Hit OK. Then open it again, and change the setting back to where you had it.
If that doesn't work, try deleting your Pr prefs by holding the Alt key down while launching the application.
If that doesn't work, see if your system has an audio driver you can reload (I'm out of my depth here. I use Macs.).
If those don't work, I'm out of ideas. Sorry. Best of luck getting it solved.

10. Re: Ringing wind noise audio in Premiere only.
gold987987987 Mar 28, 2012 3:36 PM (in response to Jim Curtis)Cool, I'll give those a shot.
Thanks for your help Jim.

11. Re: Ringing wind noise audio in Premiere only.
Nick in JC TN Dec 16, 2012 7:04 PM (in response to gold987987987)I am experiencing the exact same issue. Ringing not present on original clips in WMP, Adobe Audition or in Exports. Only in Premiere 5.5 accompaning a bass rumble (probably caused by handling noise). Did you ever solve the issue?

12. Re: Ringing wind noise audio in Premiere only.
ScottGold Dec 16, 2012 8:52 PM (in response to Nick in JC TN)I don't think that I ever solved the problem. I think it has something to do with playing the two clips at the same time and some sort of phase issues was happening.

13. Re: Ringing wind noise audio in Premiere only.
Nick in JC TN Dec 17, 2012 7:33 AM (in response to ScottGold)That's odd. I hear it playing a single Wav file in the Source monitor or on the timeline (muting one track or not) so I don't think it's a phasing issue. If it's not more widespread, maybe it's something Hardware specific?
Windows 7 Pro 64 bit
Gigabyte Sniper Motherboard
Gigabyte Nvidia GTX 570
24 GB Corsair RAM
Western Digital Caviar Black 1 TB HDD's
Were you able to edit and have your final export come out okay? If so, I'll just complete the project and ignore the ringing.

14. Re: Ringing wind noise audio in Premiere only.
ScottGold Dec 17, 2012 7:53 AM (in response to Nick in JC TN)I don't think I ever completed the project...I was just testing settings. I'm quite disturbed now that I never found a solution or answer to my issue. I might do another test soon and see if the problem is still there.
Best of luck!
