1. Re: ENCORE CS5.0 CRASHES EVERYTIME WITH WINDOWS 7 - 64BITS
Stan Jones Mar 23, 2012 9:10 AM (in response to SOIRS DE FETES)Similar laptop i5 2.5G, 6 Gig RAM, Windows 7
CS5
I do not use this laptop for production, but installed the software on it to test.
I have done some simple tests, and it has not crashed. I don't have a separate video card, and I would check your video drivers.
I suggest running the PPBM5 (http://ppbm5.com/) to see if it reveals any problems.
I would look at the hardware forum (http://forums.adobe.com/community/premiere/hardware_forum) There are a number of FAQs in a drop down on that main hardware forum page that can be helpful. I would then post on that forum to see if anyone can suggest addressing your laptop/CS5/Win7 issues.
To address Encore here in the Encore forum, do a simple process:
Open Encore, create new project, add a menu, preview. Does that crash? If not, add a single file as a timeline. Crash? If no, link the timeline and preview, etc.
Let us know what works and what doesn't.

2. Re: ENCORE CS5.0 CRASHES EVERYTIME WITH WINDOWS 7 - 64BITS
SOIRS DE FETES Mar 23, 2012 9:27 AM (in response to Stan Jones)Thanks Stan for your prompt answer, I will be obliged to wait next monday to try your solution as the user has gone (week-end begins here)
just a precision : We don't use anymore the laptop but the new computer DELL Studio XPS 8100 which is not a laptop, because ADOBE FRANCE SUPPORT told us that a laptop wasn't the good tool to use CS suite.
We will try monday and revert as soon as possible.
have a nice week-end

John T Smith Mar 23, 2012 10:52 AM (in response to SOIRS DE FETES)A laptop for video editing must have a LOT of power... such as the below
Some ideas for a Laptop Video Editing PC from past discussions

-NOTE only 1 hard drive in above, so you will need to add a 2nd drive or use eSata for video files
-or Google "ASUS G74SX-BBK7" (without the quote "" marks)
For effective HD video editing, a laptop with the following
-the newer Intel sandy bridge 2720 or 2820 quad processor
-and nvidia graphics preferably the 460m, 485m is a bit much
-1280x900 display with OpenGL 2.0-compatible graphics card
-and 8 or 16 gig ram and Win7 64bit Pro
-and 2 internal 7200 HDDs minimumThis message has a really good graphic about requirements

Sorry for the wrong assumption! They are right. But look at the PPBM5 results for i5 vs i7 processors. Big difference.
Have a great weekend!

SOIRS DE FETES Mar 27, 2012 12:58 AM (in response to Stan Jones)Hello Stan and John,
I revert to the proposed test PPBM5. I read the information but I don't find how to run the test ?
Is there a file to upload in order to run the test ?
Perhaps I don't understand exactly whow it works.
otherwise, I saw it is a special test for PREMIERE, but the problem we have is with ENCORE
in fact PREMIERE works very well on this computer and we don't have problem with it
thanks in advance for your help

Stan Jones Mar 27, 2012 11:19 AM (in response to SOIRS DE FETES)Yes, the PPBM5 is designed for Premiere, but it can be revealing regardingm any hardware issues.
To address Encore here in the Encore forum, do the simple process I described above:
Open Encore, create new project, add a menu, preview. Does that crash? If not, add a single file as a timeline. Crash? If no, link the timeline and preview, etc.

7. Re: ENCORE CS5.0 CRASHES EVERYTIME WITH WINDOWS 7 - 64BITS
SOIRS DE FETES Mar 28, 2012 1:16 AM (in response to Stan Jones)We did all the tests you indicated. these tests have already been done with ADOBE FRANCE SUPPORT by ourselves and by themselves directly on the computer.
but the problem doesn't appeared
the problem occures only when we add many files, as the project begins bigger, ENCORE is slower and slower, it can take 20 minutes to open a file !
the PC is enterely blocked, impossible to do anything.
our projects are heavy : they take the entire capacity of a DVD (4.6 Go) as they present several videos.
what we don't understand is that with our laptop running with WINDOWS XP (specs here under) we never have this problem, so we thought that the problem is situated in ENCORE running with WIN7.
Laptop specifications :
DELL VOSTRO 1710
Intel Core 2 duo T5670 (1.8 GHz, 800MHz, 2mo)
3072MB 667 MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM (1x1024 MB + 1x2048MB)
hard disk : 160Go Serial ATA (7200tr/min)
The french ADOBE FRANCE SUPPORT, told us that they can't find a solution (ENCORE CS5.0) and propose us to buy the CS5.5 version but without security that it will solve our problem or to use another soft !
We don't agree with this solution, as the ADOBE Softs are expensive.
Thank you in advance for your help in this matter.

That is helpful information.
Are you using dynamic link?
If not, what is the format of the files you bring in?
When you bring them in, does Encore show as "Do Not Transcode"?
Have you tried the "Run as Administrator" method?

Your configuration can be much more than just XP vs Win7. And there may be a lot of difference in CS5 on Win7 and CS4 on XP.
How many hard drives do you have and how are they configured in terms of where the data files and Encore project files are?

9. Re: ENCORE CS5.0 CRASHES EVERYTIME WITH WINDOWS 7 - 64BITS
SOIRS DE FETES Mar 29, 2012 3:18 AM (in response to Stan Jones)hello Stan,
to answer to your questions :
we don't use dynamic links because we cant, everytime we try it crashes
the files formats used are :
Mpeg2 for video
PSD for menu
Wav and Mp3 for music
when we bring them in ENCORE doesn't show "Do not transcode".
we used to transcode file by file.
yes we tried Administrator method (for info the user and the admin have the same rights)
the STUDIO PC used have only 1 hard disk with only 1 partition and the Encore project files are directly on the local disk
what we can add is that we have a project of half DVD capacity we don't have any problem
the problem occures when the project is over half DVD capacity
are these informations helpfull for you ?
thanks

10. Re: ENCORE CS5.0 CRASHES EVERYTIME WITH WINDOWS 7 - 64BITS
Stan Jones Mar 29, 2012 9:04 AM (in response to SOIRS DE FETES)Yes, that is helpful.
Are the video mpeg files, ".m2v"? And what do they show "Untranscoded"? (Under DVD Transcode status)
mp3's can cause problems. I don't think they are the source of your problems, but I would use only .wav's.
Are you placing multiple assets (video or audio) on the same timeline? If so, I would try with only one timeline per video/audio asset. Combine in Premiere before export if necessary.
Where in the process does the crash appear? Upon import of the first asset after the "half full" point? Or when you try to build? Or ....?
yes we tried Administrator method (for info the user and the admin have the same rights)
I do not think this is your problem, but this "administrator" method, for whatever reason, shows that running "as administrator" is different from running while logged in as a user with administrator rights.
Encore creates various files at various points, and I still suspect that there is a hardware/setup issue that applies to other programs but ony crashes Encore. I would investigate crash log files and testing your system with the PPBM5.
One drive is considered too few for editing. I would expect that to be an issue in Premiere, not Encore, but who knows.
Is your source material SD?

SOIRS DE FETES Apr 11, 2012 5:25 AM (in response to John T Smith)hello everybody,
sorry to answer so late, but out of this problem for a week !
so we tried as admin as mentioned in http://forums.adobe.com/thread/969395
the time for opening the file is better (5 to 8 mn), but when openned and when we want to do something(even just to select a file) , we have the same problem, "Encore doesn't respond" and everything is blocked
if we want to go to another soft (outlook opened for instance), it is impossible and we are obliged to close with microsoft tasks manager.
the problem is really the file size, but how can we work on a full DVD ? it's really a problem for us
I don't know if somebody meet this problem in the same conditions as us
thanks in advance for your help

13. Re: ENCORE CS5.0 CRASHES EVERYTIME WITH WINDOWS 7 - 64BITS
Stan Jones Apr 11, 2012 5:52 AM (in response to SOIRS DE FETES)I still believe that your system is underpowered. We can't know for sure, but an important symptom is that you only see the problems when working in larger projects.
I may be reading your info wrong, but you appear to have only one hard drive?
The PPBM5 chart has only one other Dell i5 system. It did not score particularly well.
With such a system, you should not be running other programs, especially programs such as Outlook, at the same time.
Dells are often loaded with other applications, and you may have many background processes using your relatively limited RAM or otherwise interferring with optimal functioning.
