I am pretty sure this is not the correct behavior:
1. Select Rectangle Tool
2. Draw Rectangle (Shape Option)
3.Enable Fill of choice
4. Enable Stroke Color of choice, as well as, Size value (say 5px).
5. From the Stroke Options dropdown picker choose the third one in the preview window.
6. The default Cap setting for this preset is Round. Now change it to Butt.
Result: the preset auto-reverts to the first one, solid line.
Select Cap: Round or Square and its back to where it should be. But not when you select Butt.
You can verify the preset changes because when you change the Cap preference to Butt, then click the More button you can see in the dialog that the very first preset is check marked.
Also throughout the Stroke panel picker there are no tooltips? Anyone not familiar with Illustrator or Fireworks will have a hardtime understanding the Align, Caps and Corners options.
It's not until you get into the More dialog you get a clear picture of what the icons correspond to.
