1. Re: RIP software for printing vector art to an Epson 7880?
Monika Gause Mar 28, 2012 2:16 PM (in response to ericjamescarl82)If it's just a few posters, have you already tried Acrobat Reader? It's free and can print PDF.

ericjamescarl82 Mar 30, 2012 7:37 PM (in response to Monika Gause)Thanks Monika, I just tried printing from Reader but no luck — the print is still a pretty low quality, rough lines and egdges in the art. Thanks though!

3. Re: RIP software for printing vector art to an Epson 7880?
John Danek Mar 31, 2012 9:02 AM (in response to ericjamescarl82)There's a few things you can try:
1.) From Illustrator with file open, Print > Save as PDF. I would set your document resolution ( or raster resolution ) first, then Print > Save as PDF; then use Reader to print the PDF(s);
2.) From Illustrator with the file open, File > Export > select CMYK @ 150ppi ( medium ). The only setback to doing it this way is you will need Photoshop to open the .tif and print.
I looked at the Epson 7880 web page and it shows 2 versions: 1.) standard; and 1.) Colorburst Edition. The Colorburst edition costed $1000.00 more than the standard version. Unfortunately, 3rd party RIP manufacturers want an arm and a leg for their software. With the Epsons you might need a compatable dongle ( in some cases ) which is typically mated to your particular printer. You might see what Wasatch might have and/or Efi. Check this site: www.itsupplies.com for a few options. Unfortunately, RIP's are expensive. But, they pay for themselves if you need your printer to match color and print smooth vectors on a consistent basis. If you typically do not need that "next level" capability, then try the above methods and see if you get better results.

the Epson Stylus Pro 7880 is a Postscript printer --and it does support postcsript--do you have the drivers installed?--are you choosing this printer when you try to print your posters?
get drivers here:
have you read the manual?

5. Re: RIP software for printing vector art to an Epson 7880?
John Danek Apr 2, 2012 9:56 AM (in response to tman69)Not necessarily. As I said in my post above, there are 2 versions: satndard and Colorburst. Colorburst is the RIP version and costs +$1,000.00.
