Is there any option available to import SVG file format into InDesign?
I'm using InDesign CS4 (Windows).
Well, did you try?
(It's not in the dropdown list in the Place dialog, so that would suggest it's a "No".)
All you need to get direct support of SVG fomat in InDesign is to install SVG Kit plug-in by Scand Ltd. It is available here http://svg.scand.com
I just checked out their website. It appears they don't support Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion) but support Leopard and Snow Leopard. I've written them to confirm that.
Good news. The SVG Kit does support Lion. You just have to manually install Java (as you do for many other programs).
Well, you need to install Java to run InDesign at all.
Instead of a 3rd party plugin, you can convert your SVGs to PDF or EPS in Illustrator...
I'm not sure that SVG has a lot of political will behind it at Adobe...InDesign used to have more SVG support than it does now...some parts got removed.
I haven't had time to download it yet, but it could be a good choice for EPUB files where it's a supported format. It could be a good way to handle vector graphics in EPUBs.
It's not working for me. I have Lion, Indesign 5.5, and installed the SVG kit. When I try file > Place, I can't select the .svg file. Anyone know how to get it to work?
Email tech support for the SVG Kit. I also had a problem installing it. I think it was developed for Windows and is more recently ported to the Mac.
