    LR4 Library question

    pennipeter Community Member

I am new to LR and have LR4.   I created a photo library on my desk top as told, to mirror what I just put in LR. I want to take those images off my desktop to put on an external drive.

But if I do this I remove even the name of my shoot ?   It shows the following folders:

      (folder) Image Files

      (folder) 2012

      (folder) Smith family

      (then the folder) Lightroom Catalog

Do I take all the folders  off to my HD?

Do I keep creating the hierarchy?

          Thanks, Penni

I'm not sure what you read, or who told you to do this, but this is relatively unnecessary (in fact, it seems to be extra work, you could have just done this on the external drive).

So you want this on your external drive. Open Lightroom. Make sure you are in the Library Module. On the left, in the folder panel, select all the folders (click on one, ctrl-click on the rest) and drag them to the external hard drive (do this entirely inside of Lightroom). If the external hard drive doesn't appear, then click on the + sign and select Add Folder and then add your external HD, and then drag and drop the folders.

I would recommend you look at the tutorial "Lightroom-Dude Where are My Photos" http://tv.adobe.com/watch/creative-suite-podcast-photographers/lightroom-dude-where-are-my -photos/
