trouble running Flash videos, msg "need Adobe Flash Player" but I have it

    Brian___B

24 hours ago I had no problem, now I cannot play YouTube or Daily Show videos. I get an error message in the video window "To view this movie you need the Adobe Flash Player plugin. You also need JavaScript enabled in your browser.", but I have Flash installed and I have JavaScript enabled.

I just uninstalled and reinstalled Flash, no help there. If it is any clue, I had trouble with this install (see http://forums.adobe.com/message/4329108#4329108).

I can confirm Flash is now reinstalled here: http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/find-version-flash-player.html. This also confirms that it is version 11.2.202.228 for Windows 7 (64-bit).

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit)

Browser: Mozilla Firefox 11.0 (I also tried MS Windows Internet Explorer 9.0.8112.16421 64 bit edition, same result)

Any help available to get this to work again? Is it me or is it YouTube and Daily Show?

      thanks

          Hello again!

Can you confirm that Shockwave Flash is enabled in

          • IE (Tools | Add-ons | Show all add-ons)
          • Firefox (type  about:plugins  into the browser's address bar)

Also, what files do you have in

          • C:\Windows\system32\Macromed\Flash ?
          • C:\Windows\syswow64\Macromed\Flash ?

As for Mozilla Shockwave Flash ... it is installed and enabled. I checked that it is enabled via Firefox/Add ons/Plugins. From "about:plugins" in address bar I get this:

            Shockwave Flash

            File: NPSWF32_11_2_202_228.dll
            Version: 11.2.202.228
            Shockwave Flash 11.2 r202

            application/futuresplashFutureSplash moviespl

            As for the directory contents:

            C:\>dir C:\Windows\system32\Macromed\Flash

Volume in drive C is OS

Hey, as a wild stab in the dark I just disabled parental control on my ESET security ... and it worked!!!

My wife told me last night that she had enabled parental filtering after an errant search for the play "Wicked" yielded some shocking results. I noted it at the time, but because I knew Firefox was requiring a Java update for a security issue I had already updated that and assumed my issues were related to required updates. Then when I couldn't update Flash with my installer issues

(see http://forums.adobe.com/message/4329108#4329108) I really thought I had some weird Flash issue.

Then when I finally you (Pat) helped me out, I got Flash reinstalled, made this thread, and went to bed.

Now it seems it was a simple security setting issue. Very weird symptoms though. I never would have thought of it if my wife hadn't mentioned it last night. Too bad I didn't just try it right away.

Thanks for the help, it looks like I am clear now!

                Thank you for the feedback.

I remember seeing issues with ESET in other topics.  It seems that updating ESET to the latest version will also resolve these issues.
