- go to http://forums.adobe.com/thread/909550
- download the uninstaller for your system
- download the installer(s) for your system
- close all browser windows and run the downloaded uninstaller
- restart Windows
- go to C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash and remove any remaining files in there
- run the downloaded installer(s)
From the log file, the OP appears to have the OS installed on the D: drive. Can the uninstaller be configured to look for the installation on another drive or partition?

Yes, indeed! But it seems that the installer is already trying to replace NPSWF32.dll on the D: drive.

Please modify this instruction and delete everything in D:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash

Hi, PranavU. I think that it might be the same problem as I had recently. I had problems yesterday with my old windows and installed new windows, without formatting the hard drive. So old Adobe Flash player left in my computer. I tried to install this new version of adobe flash player, but it gave me "general installation error" when it reached 50%.
1. I downloaded "Unlocker" program from here: http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Miscellaneous/Unlocker.shtml
2. Then installed it, opened it and browsed to a directory: C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed
3. I selected the folder "Flash" and clicked OK.
4. I selected "Delete" action and it deleted "Flash" folder from there.
5. Again I downloaded Adobe flash player and opened it after closing the browser. The installation was successful.
Was it only for me, or is this partly a universal sollution?
You could try that.
