BeepFreeze Apr 20, 2012 6:49 AM (in response to community help)iS THERE A WORKAROUND FOR BEING ABLE TO USE NEF FILES?

2. Re: Supported file formats
RikkFlohr Apr 20, 2012 6:59 AM (in response to BeepFreeze)1 person found this helpful.NEF is a Camera Raw file format. Nikon updates the file for each camera. We would need to know your version of Lightroom and your Camera model before we can tell you if your versions match and how to make sure they do.

BeepFreeze Apr 23, 2012 12:43 PM (in response to RikkFlohr)After reading the discussions on the web page, it appears that I am not the only person who is less than pleased with my software product. Got any suggestions that a reasonable person would live with. I am about to change my mind on being a loyal Adobe customer. Nikon’s products work, and that is better than Adobe.

F. McLion Apr 23, 2012 12:50 PM (in response to BeepFreeze)Ooops, that was a typo.
Of course, you guys are right and 3.6 is the latest 3.x version.
Sorry for that.

RikkFlohr Apr 23, 2012 12:52 PM (in response to BeepFreeze)If you have any version of Lightroom 3.x it should read your 300S file. I just tested with a sample file and it worked fine here on 3.6

BeepFreeze Apr 23, 2012 1:29 PM (in response to RikkFlohr)I generaly shoot .nef only. It does not recognize that format when it recognizes the camera.

11. Re: Supported file formats
F. McLion Apr 23, 2012 2:09 PM (in response to BeepFreeze)I shoot NEF only with a D300 which is quite similar to the D300s and I never had any problems importing these images.
You may want to make a sample file of yours available through some kind a file sharing service so we can test on our systems.

Cornelia-I Apr 23, 2012 2:28 PM (in response to BeepFreeze)Hi BeepFreeze,
My Nikon D300s is perfectly recognized by LR, from the 3beta on, 2 years ago. I shoot only NEF.
What error message do you see that makes you say it would not be?

It will be necessary for you to use the " render a copy with Lightroom adjustments" and send that copy to Photoshop CS4. Photoshop, even the current version, does not actually edit the raw image. By the time the image is open in Photoshop, it is no longer raw image data. And even the current version must save an image edited in Photoshop to a new file such as TIF or PSD.
However, since you are using an older version of Photoshop, and since ACR is used in the conversion process from Lightroom to Photoshop, all of the new features in ACR cannot be read and interpreted. That is why it would be necessary for you to render the copy and send that to Photoshop.

The Voice of Cheese Aug 3, 2012 10:01 PM (in response to RikkFlohr)LR3
Same problem, but...
I've downloaded and installed the 3.6 upgrade at least 4 times and when I click on the "about" it still says i'm on version 3.0, and if I check for updates it still says I need the 3.6.
I've also downloaded the DNGConverter7.1 twice. "About" informs me that I have Camera raw 6.1.
None of the .NEF files from my NIKON D7000 will import into LR3.

Hal P Anderson Aug 4, 2012 3:38 AM (in response to The Voice of Cheese)Cheese,
Are you on a Mac? If so, installing an update does not remove the previous version. You probably need to change the version referenced in the Dock.

Yes, a mac with snow leopard 10.6.8
Tried your suggestion, still launches version 3.0 AFTER a "successful" 3.6 upgrade install.
I'm stumped.

21. Re: Supported file formats
NewtoLR Oct 3, 2012 6:52 PM (in response to community help)In the past, I've noticed that sometimes some of my pictures from my SD card are not presented as an option to be uploaded. Yesterday I did a family session and took some pics in auto format and some in manual. I notice that the ones in manual, which were somehow just taken in RGB, are not showing up for me import. Can't figure out why that is...??? Help!

F. McLion Dec 4, 2012 4:23 AM (in response to Lena.a247)The D600 is a brand new camera and is supported with version 4.2 (partially) and will be fully supported with version 4.3.
