1. Re: Can't publish or "put" files to remote server
John Waller Apr 25, 2012 10:47 PM (in response to Small Town Gal)In your Remote Site definition in DW, what have you entered for the Root Directory?
It's usually something like "public_html" (without the quotes).
If that part is OK, what do you actually see in the DW Files panel when you view the Remote Site?

Then you are probably publishing to the wrong location - the directory above the 'site' root. Where does your host tell you to put your html files? As John suggests, it's often 'public_html', but it could be something else and it's possible that it should be left blank. You need to check your instructions from your host to be sure.

Small Town Gal Apr 25, 2012 11:05 PM (in response to Small Town Gal)When I entered what the server provider gave me, /admin, I could not connect. When II left the root blank, I was able to connect. I just now looked at the remote server info and entered that file information and was also able to connect, then deleted the cache, "put" files again, but still no updates.

Small Town Gal Apr 25, 2012 11:14 PM (in response to bregent)I'm with netsonic.net -- not sure of the plan, but didn't have any problem uploading with CS3 which was my last version. Trying to update a website from a CS3 version to the CS5.5 version of Dreamweaver. The log says that 250 CWD command successful

According to NetSonic's website, the root directory should be "public_html"

Small Town Gal Apr 26, 2012 6:16 AM (in response to John Waller)Dear All,
I've solved the problem. For some reason Netsonic was creating another subfolder within my root file and everything was publishing to that sub-file instead of replacing the old main file directory. When I saw what was happening in the remote site file directory, I sent my "put" file to the new file that had been created and everything worked fine. By the way, "public_html" did not work as a root directory, either -- but the problem is solved, so that's the main thing. Thanks to all who replied.
