John T Smith Apr 25, 2012 9:56 AM (in response to peacebreakerr)I don't do BluRay, but I have read (search the forum) that 1080p is not a supported BluRay format

peacebreakerr Apr 25, 2012 10:04 AM (in response to John T Smith)That must be old info because my other 1080p timelines play correctly. FYI I'm using versions 5.5.

4. Re: videos show up as black screen on burned blu-ray
peacebreakerr Apr 26, 2012 9:16 AM (in response to Jeff Bellune)All the 1080p23.976 videos have the same specs and were compressed with the same default H264 blu-ray setting in Media Encoder, only some play and some come up as black. I even re-compressed the offending ones last night just to be sure and they're still not working. I'm thinking that the problem is coming from encore. I also realized that one of the H264 480i videos that isn't working is from a different blu-ray I made a few months ago that did work. So it can't be a compression or format issue. I may start a new project from scratch and bring in all the assets to see if that helps.

John T Smith Apr 26, 2012 10:37 AM (in response to peacebreakerr)Another idea...
I don't do BluRay, but I read there is a Premiere bug that Encore will not work properly if you export from Premiere, for BluRay, using 2-pass VBR encoding

6. Re: videos show up as black screen on burned blu-ray
peacebreakerr Apr 26, 2012 12:47 PM (in response to John T Smith)I ran into that problem when I did my first blu-ray, but these were all done with Media encoder's defaul, which is 1-pass VBR and, like I said, the other videos with the exact same settings work.

7. Re: videos show up as black screen on burned blu-ray
peacebreakerr Apr 27, 2012 9:54 AM (in response to peacebreakerr)So I tested out my rebuilt blu-ray disc today - some of the timelines that were black before now play, and some of the timelines that played are now black! So it must be something that encore is doing wrong. The only thing I did was create a brand new project, imported all my media (the exact same media from the previous project) and recreated all the buttons and timelines. I also cleared the media cache just in case. Ideas anyone?

Stan Jones Apr 27, 2012 10:27 AM (in response to peacebreakerr)Well, that's weird and aggravating!
I'm confused by the number of formats you say are in the project (from post 1) and no information about navigation.
Each timeline has only one asset?
Are all of your assets BD compliant in terms of Jeff's chart linked at post 3?
Are you still getting the Error 11?

9. Re: videos show up as black screen on burned blu-ray
peacebreakerr Apr 28, 2012 6:53 AM (in response to Stan Jones)The navigation is a simple list with buttons, each one linking to a single timeline. All timelines except for one have only a single audio and video asset. The videos themselves are an assortment of formats, 480i, 720p, 1080i, 1080p, but the ones showing up as black are not a single format, so that can't be the issue. All were compressed in Media Encoder with the default Blu-ray H264 setting (I also checked render maximum depth and use maximum render quailty on them all). The original sources are quicktime reference files from Avid Media Composer. Encore says that none of the files need to be transcoded for blu-ray, and they all play in Encore's preview.
I've been creating a BD disc image so far. I did try to create a BD folder, but that was when I was getting the error 11.
Thanks for any help...

Stan Jones Apr 28, 2012 7:08 AM (in response to peacebreakerr)Just no clue....
I'd confirm what you are seeing on playback by playing the m2ts from the disk.

seems to be best.

Keith_Clark Apr 28, 2012 9:31 AM (in response to peacebreakerr)1 person found this helpfuldid you by any chance accidently black out the video track by deselecting it? if you did do that, that timeline would just be audio with a black screen...

13. Re: videos show up as black screen on burned blu-ray
peacebreakerr May 7, 2012 7:58 AM (in response to Keith_Clark)This doesn't seem to be the problem. In fact, I can't figure out myself how to even deselect the tracks. When I play the tracks from the blu-ray the screen goes black, but there isn't any audio either. It sounds like the player freezes up almost, I can hear the disc spin down. None of the remote's buttons work, and the player goes back to the main menu after about 30 seconds of black silence.
