gummybear127 Apr 29, 2012 1:56 PM (in response to John Waller)Thank you for all your help. I am trying to "put" to an existing website. I think the links you gave me deal with defining a new site. Maybe I'm reading the posts wrong, but I think the information in the links to not pertain to me.
What else should I try? I really need to get into my business website.
Thanks again,
Ross

The process of defining a site is what the links show you.
What information you enter into those define site screens in DW affects your ability to upload your website correctly.
Can you post a screenshot of your Remote Site definition from DW?
For example

sudarshan.t Apr 29, 2012 10:58 PM (in response to gummybear127)- Is the site you're working on currently listed in your DW Sites? Goto Sites > Manage Sites and look it up
- If it is present, is it the same site that you're creating your files in that you're trying to PUT?
- Is the definition screenshot you've posted above the site you're trying to put in?
- Did you click on 'Test Connection' tab in the screenshot above? Did it test successfully?
- Can you also post a screenshot of this image in Advanced tab? Right now, you've posted in Basic tab.

The site I am working on is not listed in my DW sites. Could this be the problem?
Thanks,

gummybear127 Apr 30, 2012 12:58 AM (in response to John Waller)Hi John,
I started a new site and then took the screen shot. I want to "put" to a existing website that does not appear under Manage Sites.
Thanks,

sudarshan.t Apr 30, 2012 2:07 AM (in response to gummybear127)Site > New Site - fill in your local website path in Local Info (you could choose the root folder in which your existing website resides on your computer. DW will pick up the site automatically. Then, go to Remote Info, Fill in your FTP credentials there.
Now, you can see the site you defined in your Sites tab. You could simply choose to PUT these files to your remote server.
Another option is for you to complete your design locally and then upload those files to your FTP using a FTP client such as Filezilla. However, I'd strongly recommend that you define your site in DW to make it easier for testing/ revamping purposes.

gummybear127 Apr 30, 2012 4:43 PM (in response to sudarshan.t)site>import site
Why can't I "import site"?
Would'nt I want to "import" rather then start a "new"?
Thanks for all the replies,
Ross

sudarshan.t Apr 30, 2012 10:15 PM (in response to gummybear127)You're not getting what I meant.
Import option is only to import Dreamweaver Site Definitions, not for your custom files. If you already made a site definition and have exported it from Site > Manage Sites, you could re-import it to your DW Site definitions again. For creating a new site definition, you just have to hit NEW and create one with the local path of your existing website location on your computer.
