    graphics processor acceleration problem / ps cs6 beta / osx

      anyone knows this problem? osx 10.7.3 / geforce 8600M gt / MacBookPro3,1 / PS CS6 beta

          I'm no Mac expert, but as I recall some of those Macbooks actually have two GPUs, one for power-saving and one for faster operation.

           

          If you do have this kind of system, try disabling the power-saving option so that only the high powered nVidia GPU is active.

              weird.

              if i start ps cs6 trial without second display all 3d and filters work.

              if i start my macbook pro without 2nd display, THEN connect the display - works

              if i start my macbook pro with 2nd monitor connected and THEN start photoshop - DOESNT work

               

              thats a strange workflow, so i called adobe support.

               

              then the guy told me he is not allowed to give support for trials.

              okay i told him i already bought an older version of ps and wanna update to cs6 (but only if the problem with the second display is solved - if its not its senseless for me - sure)

              he told me again he is not allowed oO

               

              ehm, well....

              he told me to write in the forum here, what i already did, so what to do?!

               

              for sure i dont buy ps cs6 if im not sure if the problem is solved.

               

              anyone has an idea?

                Hmm, so something about the graphics switching or the driver is causing problems, and the driver is either giving errors or reporting that it can't meet the requirements for CS6.

                Could you post the top portion of the Help -> System Info log, both with and without the external display connected?

                That should give us some information on what is going on.

                    That's WAY below the limit to use OpenGL in Photoshop CS6.  I'm guessing there is more available when the external display isn't attached.

                    Hmm, more available, and I'll bet it's just enough to enable basic GPU mode, but not 3D features or shaders.

                      i tried to reduce the resolution of the display but also not enaugh...

                      what can i do to make it work? only buy a new videocard?

                      i dont need 3d features, i guess only some filters like adaptive wide angle... its easier to work...

                        Well, in a MacBook you can't change the video card.

                         

                        You can ask Apple to increase the memory allocated to the graphics system in their driver software.

                         

                        But there's not much else you can do except upgrade to a more powerful machine.

                          Seriously, Apple only gives the GPU a hundred megabytes max in a 4 GB machine, and it's not user configurable?  I'm floored.
