Keyboard shortcut to select next clip?

    MonkeyEatsMonkey Community Member

So I'm previewing footage, making subclips, adding comments.  All from the keyboard.  Love it.

Then I get to then end of the clip.

At this point, I would very much like to be able to hit a single button (let's say "N" for instance) to go to the next clip in the project panel.  But there is no option to add a keyboard shortcut for this action.

As it stands now, I have to take my hands off of the keyboard, mouse over to the project panel to select the next clip, then go back to the keyboard.  If this were Premiere, I would hit Shift+1 to go to the project panel, but that doesn't work either.

I know this seems like such a trivial thing, but when you have over a hundred clips to preview, it can make a huge difference.

I've already gone through all of the help documentation, and found nothing about selecting the next clip from the timeline panel.  Am I missing something here?

Somehow, they missed that KB shortcut. Just map it in the Keyboard Shortcuts dialog, under Application > Window > Project Panel. I have reported this as a bug, but feel free to do the same.

That's a swell idea. You know what to do

I mapped the Project Panel to "N" instead of "Shift+1", so now it's a little bit closer to what I was looking for.  Since all of my ingested footage starts with the number "0" (i.e. 00001.avi, 00002.avi, etc), I can hit "N, 0, Enter" to get to the next clip without using the mouse.  It's not perfect, but it's a bit better than before.

Still trying to figure out the best workflow in Prelude, but I feel like I'm getting there.

You can use a keyboard macro app like Keyboard Maestro to bind a sequence of shorcuts to a single keystroke.

For instance when I type opt + D, the sequence is :

              - cmd + s to save and avoid the window asking if I want to.

              - shift + 1 to go to the project panel

              - down arrow to jump to the next clip

              - enter to open it

              - shift + 3 to go back to the timeline

All of this happens as fast as a single shortcut.

In Keyboard Maestro you can restrain macros to specific applications, so I made this one only active inside Prelude.

Keyboard Maestro is a mac application but you can probably find a windows application that does the exact same thing.
