1. Re: How long should it take to send a project to speedgrade?
JSS1138 May 19, 2012 10:23 AM (in response to davidbeisner2010)I takes a looong time for this to happen as PP creates the necessary DPX files for SpeedGrade.

StevRo May 19, 2012 6:50 PM (in response to davidbeisner2010)it would be quicker to export your project as an .edl file and import it in speed grade.
as jim says it can take a long time.. it all depends on the length & size of your footage. for example on the original 48 min timeline, if for example the timeline was composed of RED footage, each frame of Red would be ~45MB. So if your system's drive array can sustain 1GB/sec writes it would take 48 minutes to render the nearly 70,000 frames.

JSpragens May 19, 2012 10:37 PM (in response to StevRo)Yikes! Does the Send to SpeedGrade option render each frame separately?

StevRo May 19, 2012 11:36 PM (in response to JSpragens)yes, it does...
Its less of a downside if you have ever worked with 3rd parties.
data interchange is a big headache as few places use the same software/versions that you do.. Just because Adobe bought Iridas last Sept, doesn't mean everything automatically becomes seemless.. There is a lot of work that needs to make that magic happen

Todd_Kopriva May 20, 2012 11:36 AM (in response to StevRo)James Drake shows a RED Epic/Scarlet workflow in Premiere Pro and Speedgrade, using EDLs instead of using the Send To SpeedGrade command: http://bit.ly/L95LkK

6. Re: How long should it take to send a project to speedgrade?
JSpragens May 20, 2012 1:29 PM (in response to StevRo)I hadn't been following the history. Just noticed SpeedGrade among the packages that installed with CS6 and tried it out.
It seems it's probably not an appropriate tool for me, since much of the video I work with is AVCHD. From what I see in the forums, the EDL approach doesn't work with AVCHD source material.
This is one example among many of a situation in whcih good manuals shipped with the products would be a real help. Would have set my expectations appropriately. I know it's been several software generations since Adobe last shipped manuals, but theirs used to be among the best, and I still mourn the loss.
