Because you don't have "permission to copy document here"? Pardon the sarcasm, but you're not telling us anything here - not the program, not the operating system, no nothing. Nobody can help you based on some sentence that merely reflects your frustrated mumbling at the screen...

The answer to the question is that either the publisher or the library have

set the digital rights to those ebooks to prevent you from copying them to

another device. You can check this by looking at the ebooks' digital

rights. Here's how:

In ADE Library mode, click on the small arrow next to the ebook's name. A

drop-down box will give you some choices - pick Item Info. About halfway

down the list is the section that contains the digital rights settings.

I'm betting the 'copying' setting says no.

There's no way to fix this - it's the perogative of publishers, writers,

distributors and libraries. So if you don't like it, try contacting your

library and see if they can change the setting. I'm not hopeful that they

can or if they can, they will.

While some publishers do restrict copying titles, the error is actually referring to the transfer of the book, not actually copying. Copy restrictions means just that: you cannot make a copy of the book. This error is typically caused when the NOOK has not been authorized properly. To solve the issue, you need to reset the Adobe credentials on your NOOK.

Note: These instructions are for ADE 2.0. Please make sure you're using the most up-to-date version before continuing.

What you need

Check your Adobe authentication using Windows

  1. Make sure your computer is properly authorized.
In ADE, go to Help > Authorization Information…

Screenshot showing Authorization Information highlighted in the ADE Help menu.

The authorization window opens and shows you what ID you're currently using for your computer.
If your computer isn't yet authorized, please activate it before continuing.

Screenshot showing the Adobe ID authorization window.
  2. Close ADE and wait a few seconds.
  3. Reset the ADE folder on the NOOK. For this step, you need to close ADE.

    • Connect your NOOK to your computer (if it's not already connected).

    • Double-click your NOOK under 'My Computer' or 'Computer'
  4. Locate the folder .adobe-digital-editions and delete it.
  5. Open ADE, then try transferring the eBook again.

Check your Adobe authentication using a Mac

  1. Make sure your computer is properly authorized.
In ADE, go to Help > Authorization Information…

Screenshot showing Authorization Information selected from the ADE Help menu.

The authorization window opens and shows you what ID you're currently using on your computer.

Screenshot showing the ADE authorization window.
  2. Close ADE and wait a few seconds.
  3. Reset the ADE folder on the NOOK. For this step, you need to close ADE.

    • Connect your NOOK to your computer (if it's not already connected).

    • Open your NOOK from Finder.
    • Press Command + Shift + G.
    • In the 'Go to Folder' window, type: /nook/.adobe-digital-editions
    • Make sure the bold section of the path above ('nook') matches the name of your NOOK which is shown on the desktop when you plug it in.
    • Move the contents of the '.adobe-digital-editions' folder to the trash.
  4. Open ADE, then try transferring the eBook again.

Hope this helps!

I have a Kobo touch.  Using either a WIN XP SP3 or WIN7 machine does your procedure apply?

I want to double-check with you since the E-reader can be cranky.

My basic problem is similar to the original:

- Could transfer books some months ago.

- After yet another reset some non-Kobo sourced books will now not transfer.

- The error message is "No permission to copy here".

- The digital rights show "No copying".

Two computers are involved, same ADE ID.

Regards,

Howard
