Spinrite runs under DOS (read the page he linked to) so you will need to have some of boot disk... which MAY be a CD... I think the Spinrite page has instructions on how to create a DOS boot CD... which, of course, must have Spinrite on the CD to then run
Since Spinrite must have a separate boot disk, it is NOT a continuous monitoring solution that runs in the background on Windows to "watch" the health of your hard drives... you run it to test the drives and take care of back sectors... possibly on a monthly basis
I do NOT know if Spinrite works with raid drives... you will have to read at the site
