Premiere pro CS6 has a very annoying mpeg2 import error. I updated to 6.01 worked one time but when the project reopened It had the error again. This error only happens in CS6 and not older versions of premiere. I have a lot of mpeg2 footage and really don't feel like converting it because in my opinion cs6 should support a very common MPEG2 codec.
The error reads as fallowing: This project contained a sequence that could not be opened. No sequence preview preset file or codec could be associated with this sequence type.
I really hope adobe gets on this one because this is redeculess. expecially when you work on a project for hours and then it wont load afte sutting down the app and trying to finish editing at a later date.

That error message occurs when you have a sequence that uses settings which are no longer available to PP.
For instance, if you have created an AJA sequence, but no longer have any AJA hardare installed. (That's just one example.) The key is to look to your sequence settings.

It's because of the MPEG2 problem. The video in the sequence has MPEG2 video files in it so its complaining it can't open that. Its a standared 23.976 1080P sequence created in PP CS6 and saved in PP CS6. The problem is sometimes the files will open and sometimes thery won't. Juts making it impossible to work with any MPEG2 codec reliably. If its because of AJA then Adobe needs to fix it. I have submitted the bugg to them maybe they will have a solution soon.

It's not specifically because of what's in the sequence, it's because of the sequence settings.
Many sequence presets also use MPEG for previews. If your installation of CS6 is having an MPEG issue, then those sequences that rely on MPEG preview codecs will generate that error. (Of course, this also means any media using MPEG will have issues.)
Take a look at your available sequence presets. Are they all DV based, or do you still have MPEG presets available?

I'm thinking its my firewall now. I went through all the programs and noticed some of Adobe apps like media encoder/application manager were blocked. So I just went through and made sure no Adobe applications are blocked and have not had the issue since that time. But believe me its not my sequence settings its all a codec issue. I am not sure how Premiere handles its codecs and maybe the firewall was blocking the communication to decode the codec. ?? Don’t know that’s just my guess.

It's sort of both. The sequence likely uses an MPEG codec for previews. Had the sequence used DV for previews you would not have seen that error. So...it really kind of is the sequence settings. That's what the error is telling you - "sequence preview preset".

I never used DV or the microsoft codec im working in HD.

Ok! 😃 Finally got the tutorial finished. It was just super frustrating that I had to redo the project sooo many times to get her done. I am still thinking it had something to do with the firewall because I did the same process every time. Below is a copy of the tutorial...

Yeah, CS6 so far is a no go for me. I have several MPEG2 shows (I work for a television station) that won't import into PP CS6, but import just fine in CS5.5. On the other hand, I also have some MPEG2 files that import fine.
For instance, this one imports fine:

Format : MPEG Video

This one, does not:

will solve MPEG import error as well as other missing export presets in export properties..
