Unable to re-install Dell preloaded Acrobat X Standard

    pacresearch

Our machines have Acrobat X Standard purchased and installed by Dell at the end of last year. The program is misbehaving badly on all machines and we want to re-install. The Adobe card supplied by Dell says we can re-downlaod from Adobe support. However Adobe support only allows re-downlaods for items in the order history. As we bought from Dell, there is no order history. Catch 22. HELP PLEASE. We have never ever been so disappointed in an Adobe product as this one - most of our old and almost all new PDFs freeze on opening - it is killing our business being locked out this way.

Most of the time, Dell and other vendors have all of the software loaded on the system some place (they tend to be vague about where). You may be disappointed in Adobe, but I see this as a Dell issue. Usually Dell is pretty good about support and I would give them a buzz. Support from Adobe, that is a different issue. However, as they mentioned you do not have an order history for the product. It may be that Dell provided some information about getting into the order that you missed. I would strongly encourage you to be sure you have a CD or DVD backup of all the software that you have purchased. Sorry, but I can't help other than suggesting you call Dell.

Thanks Bill. The registration card Dell supplies with the PCs is an official Adobe card printed by Adobe. This card says to go to Adobe if you need to re-install. The logic is unavoidable that this is an Adobe issue.

In any case, the bigger worry is the fact that Adobe X Standard freezes for between 10 seconds and a minute or two on opening each pdf - including ones it has generated. I see there are multiple anguished web posts about this from other users, and no clear reponse I have seen from Adobe. The same pdfs open fine in Adobe 9. We have turned all the security prefernces off but cannot get this demon out of our multiple systems exhibiting the same behaviour. Our last resort s therefore to re-install but from the amount of commentary on the web, I don't have much hope.

Don't suppose you have any inisghts on how to cure this ?

            Regards,

            Andrew

Hopefully one of the Adobe employees will be by and might be able to make a suggestion. It is really strange. Is there a serial number or such provided? Did you register your copy? Those will be typical questions to be answered.

Reinstallation files can be found here:  C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 10.0\Setup Files

Then apply the update from here
