    Encoding Quality Issues

    Hindsight_Productions Community Member

I have Premiere Pro CS6 project that have multiple sequences I want sent to Encore for producing a DVD.

All footage and sequences are 1920 by 1080p 29fps

I have sent these sequences to Media Encoder's render que using the preset MPEG2 DVD (Highest Quality) and I checked the Use Maximum Render Quality box.

These sequences took several hours to encode overnight.

When I load them into Encore to start building the DVD, the playback quality in the monitor is poor.  However, when it is on a single frame, it looks sharp.  So, will my DVD burn be wasted, or is the playback quality in ncore not indicative of the MPEG2 quality that will appear on the burned disc?

      Thanks

When you burn an RW DVD, as a test, how does it look?

The Preview in Encore is but an emulation, and not the best possible.

Now, with a workflow, starting with HD, and going to SD, i.e. down-rezzing, Jeff Bellune's TUTORIAL might be helpful for ultimate quality. Do not think that he's updated it for CS 6, so we might wait for him to weigh in.

          Good luck,

You might also want to try changing the preferences. For Monitor window Playback preferences:

Go to Preferences->General and change the Playback Quality to High.

By default in CS6, it is kept automatic which sometime might lead to a bad playback quality in order to simulate a real time playback without any dropped frame.

This preference will improve your plaback quality but this might not be the best result.

Sorry, I have not had a chance to build a DVD to test the output quality.  However, in the meantime I discovered that the Encore preferences dd not have selected "GPU Accelerated" for previews.  When I selected that, the quality of the previews in the monitor increased significantly.

              Thanks
