AtlantaVideo May 31, 2012 9:37 PM (in response to zcdk)First play should be a menu. Then from memu the user selects which video to play. NO?

coolvideo12 Jun 1, 2012 3:48 AM (in response to zcdk)Playlist can solve your purpose .
Playlist is a group of timelines , slideshow and chapter playlist that play sequentially .
You can set any order ( ex: Timeline3->timeline-2->timeline1) and all timelines will play in the set order one by one.
Thanks

Ann Bens Jun 1, 2012 5:37 AM (in response to coolvideo12)With a playlist the user cannot choose the order of video's, its set by the dvd.

4. Re: Nonlinear Playback in Encore?
Stan Jones Jun 1, 2012 6:16 AM (in response to Ann Bens)Ann, I'm not sure what you mean. Playlist "A" can play Timeline 1 -> Timeline 2, and Playlist "B" can be set to play Timeline 2 -> Timeline 1,
The problem, as zcdk noted in his post, is that all permutations of 5 videos is not pretty. And finding a way for the user to select would be difficult.
Encore has the limit of not having scripting.

5. Re: Nonlinear Playback in Encore?
zcdk Jun 1, 2012 6:24 AM (in response to Stan Jones)Thanks Stan. Am I correct in assuming there is just no way to do this in Encore?
I really want a menu with five buttons for each video and a play selection buttons. Example: the user could then choose video buttons 3, 1, 5 and then press the play selections button to play the videos in that order. Thanks for your help.

6. Re: Nonlinear Playback in Encore?
Stan Jones Jun 1, 2012 8:01 AM (in response to zcdk)You would have to use autoactivate and multiple menus. User clicks video 2. Without knowing it is a different menu, that button selects another menu, for which video 2 is going to be selection 1. On that menu, they click video 4. On to another menu, which is set for playing video 2 then 4. Etc. And yes, you'd have to have a playlist for every possible combination. I don't know if that would work a) can it be constructed logically without setting the number of videos per "play" and b) it might exceed the 1 gig limit for menus etc.
My bottom line: requires scripting.
Don't hold your breath, but make a feature request.

JSS1138 Jun 1, 2012 9:08 AM (in response to zcdk)the user could then choose video buttons 3, 1, 5 and then press the play selections button to play the videos in that order.
With Encore, the user would have to play 3, then when it's done he goes back to the menu and plays 1, then again for 5. You can't select random order and play all at once. The video would return to the menu after each plays.

8. Re: Nonlinear Playback in Encore?
zcdk Jun 1, 2012 9:54 AM (in response to JSS1138)Thanks everybody. I think the solution is to just do this project in DVDSP.
I really want to switch to PP6 and Encore full time and like both products for the most part. But it is like Adobe developed each one to about 90% of video editors needs. I wish they would hit it out of the park with both programs. It would make the whole "do I switch to PP6 or MC6 from FCP7" thing a whole lot easier. I don't understand what they are doing.

Bill Hunt Jun 1, 2012 1:36 PM (in response to zcdk)I might be mis-remembering this, but recently saw a post, that indicated that Encore CS6 had random (not sure if that is helpful to you) playback, but do not recall the exact particulars - maybe BD-only? May need some other program to alter code? Unfortunately, I am not having luck finding that post (think that it was here, but could have been The Creative Cow?). If I do, I will check on the details, and will also post a link.
Good luck,
Hunt

Bill Hunt Jun 1, 2012 1:46 PM (in response to Stan Jones)Stanley,
You are correct. The first mention of Random Playback was in Reply #8, but verified by Reply #25. Was heading here with that link, but you beat me to the punch. Still not sure it that will help the OP, even if they upgrade to En CS6.
Thank you,
Hunt
