I hope someone can help me. I've been working on this problem for hours and hours. I've been given conflicting answers too. I recently purchased a book from B&N since I have gift cards. I could not get DE to read the book. I then downloaded the new 1.8 version. I was then able to download the book onto that version of DE AND read it. Even when I transfer it to my reader on the DE window. Well, now, when I close all programs and turn on my reader, it says it cannot be read. But, I can read it from my device throught DE on the computer! WTH??

The Sony Reader does not support content from B&N.

Yes, so I downloaded Adobe Digital Editions because it said you could put books on there and it was compatible with Sony. I'm guessing that I still cannot put the books on from there regardless.

I said that ADE 1.8 (or 2.0) reads content from B&N, which it does.
I didn't say that ADE 1.8 (or 2.0) will transfer B&N content to any reader (including Sony) to make it usuable. It would be nice if Adobe did this, but so far that's not the case.

There's another solution that uses SONY Reader Library which is installed
on your computer when you activated your SONY ereader with the SONY
website.
Keninator posted this work-around on February 12, 2012:
1. Download the files into Adobe Digital Editions.
2. Once you have the files in Adobe, open your Sony Reader Library (the
software that comes with your Sony Reader).
3. Click on "File" at the top of your Reader Library screen and select
"Import Folder".
4. The folder you would like to import is called "My Digital Editions"
which can be found within your "Documents" folder on your PC or Mac.
5. Single-click on the "My Digital Editions" folder and hit the "Select"
button to import this folder into the Reader Library.
6. All of the eBooks you have in Adobe Digital Editions will now be
imported into the Reader Library so you can now plug in your Sony Reader.
7. Select the eBook you'd like to transfer to your sony device by
clicking on it. A square box will outline the eBook on your screen.
8. Go to the bottom of the screen to More Options
9. Select 'Sync with Reader Device'.

That won't work either. The Sony Readers just fundamentally don't support content purchased from B&N (unless it is DRM free), and there are no current ways to work around this.

You make it sound so simple.............and it is. So why can't the manufacturers and sellers tell you this stuff?

My guess is that you're running into an issue with the digital rights of
the ebook. Publishers, distributors and authors have the ability to
restrict whether an ebook can be copied or printed. If they restrict
copying, you won't be able to read the ebook on your Nook.
Take a look at the settings. You can find them when you display the Item
Info for the ebook: in Library view, put your cursor on the small arrow
next to the ebook's title. A drop-down menu will appear, and one of its
choices is 'Item Info'. Click on that entry, and the information will be
displayed. The second set of entries gives you the digital rights settings.
If the digital rights are not preventing you from copying the ebook to your
Nook, then are you getting a message from the Nook that tells you
something's wrong with the ebook itself? I don't have one, so I can't try
checking that part out myself.
