Can't use my web photo gallery templates

    robirdman1 Community Member

It seems every time I upgrade Photoshop, I lose more than I gain as far as what I want to use.

Whe I went from CS3 to CS4 I found that the customizable web gallery templates were no longer included.  With the help of Adobe tech, I was able to install those plus the ones I customized.  Those have links to other pages on what is a huge web site with thousands of images, and hundreds of pages, that took years to build and is still ongoing.

The only reason I upgraded from CS4 to CS5 was because the former would not upgrade to a RAW file converter that would read my Nikon D4 files.  SO now that I can read those files, and make tiffs, I can no longer add them to my web site because the included styles are limited and non customizable as far as I can see.  So this time when I asked the Adobe tech for help he said they are no longer supported.  I don't know if he meant they couldn't work, but that there is no help coming.

I just can't understand why it is considered an improvement to now have templates that are a dead end, with no capablity for adding links to other pages.  I can only conclude that they just want you to spend more money on some other program if you want to actually have a professional website, instead of a bunch of limited dead end pages.

I am hoping that perhaps there is someone besides me, with more knowledge that can tell me how I might integrate those templates from CS3 that were added to CS4.

Otherwise, since I bought a new computer for CS5, it means I have to keep the older computer with CS4 and connect the extermal HD with images  every time I want to continue adding or modifying pages of my site.  All I want is to return to the ability to create pages such as:

http://theearlybirder.com/watrfowl/woodduck/index.htm that link to other parts of my site and are not limited to 8 rows by 5 columns.

I'll post the absurdity of Adobe's position of Facebook meanwhile.  Upgrading to be able to view D4 files while losing the ability to integrate any with my website.

          Hello!

What is your platform? PC or Mac?

What are the templates that you were using?

PC.  The templates were in CS3, white on black and I added links.

This is probably beyond the scope of forum members, but, as I am clueless,  I will post anyway.

I  took another approach.  I thought, if I at least don't have to keep another computer around and put the HD on it every time I make galleries, maybe I can at least put CS4 on this computer and use it just for this purpose.

So I  installed it and then of course I knew it wouldn't have the CS3 templates and information to use them, so I copied the various folders that had CS4 photoshop or Bridge from that Vista computer, to overwrite the newly installed ones.  I also went to Common Files and Application Data where I found more CS4 references and also CS3.  I moved them to the equivalent folders on the Win7 computer.  I thought that whatever the Adobe tech had done years ago to get CS4 to use the CS3 templates might have the configuration here somewhere, but it didn't work. Going toTools> Photoshop in Bridge wtill doesn't have Web Photo Gallery in the menu as it did on the other computer,

It did seem to affect some other things though.  My keywords in CS6 were back to the default, till I reimported the file with the hundreds I'd added.  Also double clicking a CS6 Bridge image opened CS4.  Though using Control-R and then opening from the Camera Raw modifier opens to Phototoshop CS6.

I just caught up on a backlog of recent images, making over 1500 tiffs and want to add to my Website, but am still frustrated because I traded the ability to open Nikon D4 files for the loss of my custom web pages with links.

If anyone knows how to activate the CS3 gallery templates in CS4 as before, I'd greatly appreciate it.

The problem for you is that the top responders know little, or in my case nothing, about web pages.

I hope that someone of the 100 people that have looked at this page will respond, you don't have to be an expert, just voice what you are doing with web pages.

Robirdman, if web pages are what you like to do you might also explore third party software.  Bridge is made mainly to be a file browser, and it is not good to every use.
