It seems that you need to discover the eyedropper tool! The eyedropper will allow you to select a color from your image and make them into swatches for you to work with. You can save them into your swatch palette for future use as well.

Curt Y Jun 13, 2012 8:43 AM (in response to steenmikkelsen2)With the eyedropper tool you can change the size of the sample area from a point source to much larger.
Option is eyedropper toolbar. Click on sample size dropdown window.
