2. Re: Edit nested sequence, while seeing result
Pacoan Jun 13, 2012 12:50 PM (in response to Pacoan)I'm guessing that this is a limitation of the software, and that I should be using an app made for compositing.
Also, I noticed with titles, that if I am editing a title that has been placed beneath other elements, (like a shape placed beneath text), that the text is not visible during the edit. It seems like the title must be placed above other clips to show its relationship during edit.

JSS1138 Jun 13, 2012 12:52 PM (in response to Pacoan)I should be using an app made for compositing.
Even with After Effects, I don't know of any way to see two comps at the same time.

Pacoan Jun 13, 2012 12:55 PM (in response to JSS1138)That's crazy talk Jim. Seriously. No disrespect, I am just surprised. So the solution is to..... have a large amount of video tracks in a single comp?

5. Re: Edit nested sequence, while seeing result
Pacoan Jun 13, 2012 1:27 PM (in response to Pacoan)Don't be so quick to say it can't be done. It sounds like we are thinking of two seperate things. I am not trying to view two comps at once, although that too can be done in AE.
The result I am looking for in Premiere can be done easily in After Effects by locking the preview.
- 2 Comps
- Comp A has Comp B "nested" in it
- Click the lock in the Comp A Preview Tab
- Double-click Comp B, it opens and creates a second comp window (similar to the program monitor)
- Now you can work in Comp B while watching the result in Comp A
This is basic compositing stuff. From what I gather, I should not be nesting things until I feel comfortable that their timing will need no further editing? I'm just learning about the intended use here, and what the software was intended for.
Thanks for any constructive feedback.

Fuzzy Barsik Jun 13, 2012 2:54 PM (in response to Pacoan)The result you are looking for can be easily done in PrPro as well.
It is not forbidden to open up your resulting sequence in the Source Monitor while editing nested sequence.

JSS1138 Jun 13, 2012 4:18 PM (in response to Fuzzy Barsik)That might work, if you don't need the Effects Controls Panel for anything, of if you can pull it out, or if you don't need a live update.

Pacoan Jun 13, 2012 6:07 PM (in response to JSS1138)Thanks Fuzzy, that is definitely helpful. As Jim pointed out there are those limitations. But this is definitely a step closer to what I was looking for. Yay!!! Next time I'll do all of the trickery in AE.

9. Re: Edit nested sequence, while seeing result
Fuzzy Barsik Jun 13, 2012 7:01 PM (in response to Pacoan)Those limitations do not exist since the workspace is rearrangeable.
E.g. switch the layout from 'Editing' to 'Color Correction', and you'll have Effect Controls, Source Monitor, Timeline, Program Monitor and Reference Monitor at hand.

Pacoan Jun 13, 2012 7:23 PM (in response to Fuzzy Barsik)I misread Jim's post and assumed he was referring lack of sync between source and project. Thanks for the clarification, this solution works fine, given the apps intended use. It's interesting that the Reference window has this Gang to Program Monitor option, while not allowing comparison of other sequences. I think I just need to shut up and edit.
