1. Re: Photoshop CS6 erratic eyedropper cursor bug
Chris Cox Jun 15, 2012 1:54 PM (in response to matedobray)That's because you're close to the edge of 2 colors, and the cursor location is moving by some fraction of a pixel distance.
Most likely this is because the tablet is not 100% precise, or your hand is moving just slightly (nobody can hold it perfectly still, even your pulse moves it).
Because it's moving just a fraction of a pixel: the OS doesn't move the cursor, but Photoshop's mapping of the screen location (which is more precise than whole screen pixels) to document location changes.

matedobray Jun 15, 2012 2:51 PM (in response to Chris Cox)Thanks for your reply!
This was my hypothesis too, but why does this almost always happen when I'm pressing Alt while using the Brush tool, and never when I'm simply using the Eyedropper directly? Though I guess it's possible that the tracking is different when using the Brush tool than when using the Eyedropper...
Anyway, it's not a big issue, just wanted to make sure this isn't a Photoshop bug

4. Re: Photoshop CS6 erratic eyedropper cursor bug
matedobray Jul 18, 2012 5:45 AM (in response to Chris Cox)Just to add some more info if this helps: The problem also happens just as much with the Wacom Intuos 4, as well as the Bamboo Fun, so I doubt it's related to the tablet not working properly. The issue never happened with either tablets on previous versions of Photoshop, only CS6.
It doesn't only happen with the eyedropper, but with other toos like the Shape tool (when making a circle, for example, dragging often results in the same shaky cursor which also affects the size of the shape).
It doesn't seem to affect tools like the Brush and the Pen tool.

warawara Jan 15, 2014 12:40 PM (in response to matedobray)Old thread but still usefull...
My hand tool would shake just like the video. Solved it.
In photoshop, Preferences / Performance / History and Cache / Change the amount of Cache levels. For me it was reducing it my one.
Hope it still helps.

Chris Cox Jan 15, 2014 9:11 PM (in response to Trevor.Dennis)No, but you're using cheap servos that are likely to stutter. :-)

8. Re: Photoshop CS6 erratic eyedropper cursor bug
matedobray Jan 17, 2014 12:42 PM (in response to Chris Cox)I understand that my hand may be trembling, but how come this issue only happens when using the color picker by pressing Alt on the Brush tool, and NOT by simply using the eyedropper tool? Should't the two tools work exactly the same way? Also, if my hand isn't stable, the Eyedropper tool does a pretty good job at never trembling, while the Brush + Alt = Color Picker tool does not. Can you reproduce the issue?
