Stan Jones Jun 20, 2012 7:15 AM (in response to lisaellensegal)What version of Encore?
Assume DVD not BD based on your output size?
Can't put H264 on DVD.

2. Re: Audio distortion
lisaellensegal Jun 20, 2012 7:33 AM (in response to Stan Jones)forgive me for omitting important details. I am running cs5 for all. I am encoding to a dual layer -r dvd. I was doing the h264 striclty to test the audio online. Here is my link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qfUYbFrz8Kg
I did see some information online suggesting that encoding at a high rate may cause some distortion of video and dolby might fix. Any thoughts? It's the bass that sounds just awful (not during playback from ppro, just after rendering to disc).
Thanks,
Lisa

Bill Hunt Jun 20, 2012 9:32 AM (in response to lisaellensegal)Lisa,
Are you using a 5.1 SS Master in PrPro, and then going to DD 5.1 SS via the SurCode Encoder, or are you using a Stereo Master, to output a stereo Audio Stream for your DVD?
If the latter (stereo and no 5.1 SS), I would output a PCM/WAV Audio file, and test that. In Encore, you would change Audio to PCM/WAV, from DD AC3. AC3 is not an ultimate Audio format, and other than freeing up a little bit of DVD space for Video, or where one needs DD 5.1 SS, might not be helpful. For ultimate Audio, try the PCM/WAV Audio option, and test.
Good luck,
Hunt

lisaellensegal Jun 20, 2012 10:29 AM (in response to Bill Hunt)Hi Hunt,
Forgive my ignorance, where are the settings for 5.1 SS Master vs. Stereo Master in PrPro? Never mind, I found the setting in the "new sequence" option. All of my sequences were set up with Stereo Master in PrPro.

5. Re: Audio distortion
Bill Hunt Jun 21, 2012 11:28 AM (in response to lisaellensegal)OK. Since you have a stereo Master, I would definitely try using PCM/WAV and setting the Audio to PCM/WAV in Encore. Test. Does that Audio still distort?
Good luck,
Hunt

6. Re: Audio distortion
lisaellensegal Jun 21, 2012 12:06 PM (in response to Bill Hunt)I believe those were my original settings. I am not certain where the choice is for Encore audio settings. I see the device options. I suspect that my levels might have been too low and I increased the audio on my reciever to compensate thereby distorting the audio. I have increased the gain in ppro, encoded agan in Encore and am in the process of burning a new disc. I will post my results shortly.
Thanks for your help.

7. Re: Audio distortion
Bill Hunt Jun 22, 2012 8:01 AM (in response to lisaellensegal)This laptop has an older version of En, but the location for the Audio Encoding (in that version), is Edit>Preferences>Encoding>Audio encoding scheme, where you have a drop-down, telling En which Encoder to use for Audio. You should have Dolby Digita, MPEG 1 Layer Il & PCM. I would try with PCM, and do a critical listening test.
Good luck,
Hunt

Stan Jones Jun 22, 2012 12:06 PM (in response to Bill Hunt)In CS6, in the project settings -> default transcode; for most purposes, in the edit quality presets.

10. Re: Audio distortion
lisaellensegal Jun 22, 2012 3:30 PM (in response to Bill Hunt)Hey Hunt,
Thanks for your help. Your encore suggestion of changing the Audio Encoding Theme to PCM seems to have fixed my issue. Please note that I found the path to audio encoding scheme in File/Project Settings - click on Defualt Transcode Settings/Audio Tranascoding Scheme. I also think that the distortion was especially bad because I was listening to the disc through my surround sound speakers. I put the volume through the TV and it was better, still not great. I burned another disc changing only the audio scheme in Encore to PCM and now all seems good.
Thanks for the help.

Great news, and think you for reporting your success.
Many feel that DD AC3 stereo is a poor choice, unless one absolutely needs a bit of extra space for the Video. With DD 5.1 SS, DD AC3 is the only choice, and Audio schemes, like DTS can only be used as "supplemental" Audio. Most feel that for Audio fidelity, PCM/WAV is by far, the better choice.
Good luck,
Hunt
