1. Re: Premiere Pro 5.03 on PC - Consistent Crashing.
Harm Millaard Jun 26, 2012 7:23 AM (in response to flbreen)Frank,
I can no longer test with 5.03, since it is no longer installed on my system, but I have no problems with MXF 50 Mb/s 1080i-25 material from the same camera. I only got that camera when I already had 5.5 installed and now 6. It might be something with 5.03. Maybe someone else with 5.03 still installed can test it for you.
How is the fill rate on your two non-OS disks? Have you defragmented them? Keep in mind that the data rate of 5.4 MB/s per track does not seem much, but the overhead is still there.

flbreen Jun 26, 2012 7:48 AM (in response to Harm Millaard)The fragmentation test shows 0% fragmentation on all of my disks.
I am trying to come up with settings for the camcorder that will be easiest for my aging PC to process.
The settings on the XF300 are: 35Mbps 1280x720 & 60P - I noticed that the video is darker (grainer) than I expected.
I will try 30P next time.
I assume that 30P is easier to process than 60P.
Is a slower bit rate better or worse for editing?
To save money I am hoping to get through this year with my current system.
Next year I plan to put together a system that will handle any video that the camcorder can produce.
Is there any point to upgrading to Pr 5.5?

JSS1138 Jun 26, 2012 8:49 AM (in response to flbreen)If memory serves, this media was not fully supported until 5.5.
It'd be well worth upgrading to CS6, especially with the new subscription service.

flbreen Jun 26, 2012 2:45 PM (in response to JSS1138)Are you saying that reason that my Pr 5.03 crashes because there are bugs in Pr 5.03 that will never be fixed?
I am trying not to spend my on my old system with the hope of upgrading both hardware and software next year.
Are you recommending that I spend the $300 to upgrad to Pr 5.5?

John T Smith Jun 26, 2012 3:28 PM (in response to flbreen)If there are bugs in CS5, I very much doubt they will be fixed... since the current version is CS6
>upgrad to Pr 5.5?
Current version is CS6

6. Re: Premiere Pro 5.03 on PC - Consistent Crashing.
flbreen Jun 26, 2012 4:09 PM (in response to John T Smith)I have Pr CS5.03.
Do you know if I can go from my current version to Pr 6.0 for $149?
I am confused about the upgrade.

7. Re: Premiere Pro 5.03 on PC - Consistent Crashing.
John T Smith Jun 26, 2012 4:56 PM (in response to flbreen)This page http://www.adobe.com/products/premiere.html says upgrade "from" $149
So, the exact price you pay depends on what you have now... Clicking the BUY button and selecting CS5 as the basis, the upgrade price is $299
That is, of course, the price to upgrade LIKE products... standalone Premiere Pro to standalone PPro... you may NOT upgrade to only PPro CS6 if your PPro CS5 is part of a suite

8. Re: Premiere Pro 5.03 on PC - Consistent Crashing.
flbreen Aug 10, 2012 4:50 PM (in response to John T Smith)Thanks for the info. Sorry to bring you back to this problem. I have the "Adobe Creative Suite 5 Master Collection". I guess I need Premiere Pro 5.5 to avoid the MXF problems. How much does it cost to get me to get there?

9. Re: Premiere Pro 5.03 on PC - Consistent Crashing.
John T Smith Aug 10, 2012 6:08 PM (in response to flbreen)Well, as I said in my last message on June 26, Adobe does not allow you to upgrade only one component of a suite
So, if all you want is PPro CS6 (CS5.5 is no longer available) you will have to pay full price for that single product
Go to the Adobe store (click the big red A at the top left) to find the price of PPro CS6
